I'm not really going to know what I'm talking about here. I'm ok when everything works smoothly, but that's not the case.

I've been trying to work out how to get Ubuntu on my HP Netbook, and from what I can gather, I downloaded a program that installed as Universal-USB-Installer-1.8.7.9 and used it to put ubuntu-11.10-desktop-i386 on a USB pendrive. When I adjust the BIOS to boot from USB, I get the error (I think it's an error because nothing else happens) "Could not find kernel imagine: vesamenu.c32"

This seems too cut and dry to have issue with. Any idea what gives? Thanks guys.

Sounds like an error from the bootloader saying it doesn't have the correct vga driver to display the menu?

Hey guys, thanks for all the help. I spent a great deal of time looking up things on the internet yesterday, and it looked like mostly the problem went unsolved. It's an HP mini that I'm installing Ubuntu on.

But I dropped back to an earlier version, and it installed fine (aside from wireless network firmware). I hooked it up to wired internet last night, which I didn't know was even possible with this thing (I'd overlooked the plugged Ethernet port since I bought it, haha) and started updating it to the latest distribution, which I hope brings everything over I need for wireless networking.

At least now I can see a desktop, and it works fine wired. If there are any other issues when it's done upgrading I'll post again.

    Thanks again guys!

How old is the pen drive? I had a similar problem and it was the pen drive itself. You might want to check the download and verify the files.

I see you resolved the problem, with an earlier version. Gee, I had to turn off my auto spell check.. It kept splitting pendrive. :)
