    ok so i was having issues with firefox after an update and found the problem was linked to the ubuntu modification extension. but one of my problems seems to still exsist and i found another problem.

    The first problem is videos randomly stop playing appear to buffer but never resume even after clearing cache and waiting 5+ minutes.

    The second problem is when I went to check if perhaps another extension was enabled I discoverd my extensions were not displayed and instead told me I had no add ons of this type(same thing under appearence tab). however the extensions seem to still be intergrated into the browser as they appear next to my search bar and appear to still function.

    Any help is more then welcomed Thank you very much in advance.

    ps: I'm a linux noob so you might have to explain things a bit.

    You could start with delete the .mozilla file in your home directory to see if the problem is repaired. (It will be recreated)

    Not all the geeks here are as quick as the help in the official Ubuntu Forums.

    Google is also your friend.

    I'm still using 10.04 and haven't upgraded to 12.04 yet, but Firefox hasn't changed much in Ubuntu for several years now. Based on my 10.04 distro, here's what works for me...

    I don't think BOOOM meant to delete the .mozilla directory, but rather the Firefox profile, found WITHIN the .mozilla directory at /home/.mozilla/firefox/random.default; where random.default is an 8-character alphanumeric file name with *.default extension. (If BOOOM meant to delete the .mozilla diretory, it's a solution that I don't know about, and he needs to interject for the remainder of that solution; otherwise, I think he meant to say what I'm presenting here...but BOOOM doesn't usually give bad advice, so in the event of conflicting advice, I would choose BOOOM over me ;-))

    However, continuing with my proposed solution, for ease of restoration in case of error, just rename random.default as random.bak and your entire Firefox profile will be saved there (bookmarks, history, etc...). Also, in case we resolve the issue, I'd backup your bookmarks so they can be easily imported into a new profile. Close out Firefox.

    The next time you open Firefox, a NEW profile will be generated from scratch. If the problem is resolved, the issue was with your default configuration; import your previously saved bookmarks and life should be good. If the problem is NOT resolved, the issue is with your Firefox version (and perhaps BOOOM has the solution that starts with deleting the entire .mozilla directory?).

    You should now have 2 Firefox profiles; 1 named random2.default and a second named random.bak (your previously corrupted default profile). To restore your previous profile, rename your random.bak to its original random.default filename. Lastly, in the same directory as the default profile, open the file profile.ini with a text editor. It should look like this:

    [General]
    StartWithLastProfile=1

    [Profile0]
    Name=default
    IsRelative=1
    Path=vkuuxfit.default

    The LAST line is the Firefox profile to be used by default. Edit the last line to reflect the name of the random.default profile you want to use; save the file and everything should be good again. Good luck!

    Thanks Hedon James-

    I made a mistake of where the profile directory is located. :-o

    Should have said profile within the .mozilla directory.

    Your reply was more precise and spot on. :major

    BTW the .mozilla folder is a hidden folder. I always had view set to not hide folders myself...

    No worries BOOOM, it's all good. I just didn't want to hijack the thread in a direction away from where you were headed. If you had a solution involving deletion of the entire .mozilla directory, I was gonna grab some popcorn and take good notes for my own edification!

    seems to be working now with my old profile i believe it was the flash plugin and some confliction

    when i first got ubuntu i apperently installed some wrong version (xubuntu or w/e) and it was causing confliction by the looks of it

    im still testing to be sure the issue is gone but so far so good

    after further testing the problem still persists but with less frequency I will try the new profile and see if i can possibly fix it that way otherwise I'm beggining to think it could be related to internet connection is some way as i use wifi on a desktop computer and we have had some issues due to recent power outages and our router trying to mess up.

    There is a wiki on the Ubuntu site that tells of conflicts between nonfree flash plugins and the FOS alternative flash plugins. This link tells how to repair the nonfree conflicts....

    Good Howto remove xubuntu (Ubuntu with another Window manager) :major

    the xubuntu was just the xubuntu restricted extras which i removed but i will be sure to check the confliction list to be sure but I am begining to believe this is a internet connection issue.

    You may want to check addons and insure you check status in safemode.

    CLI -
    Code:
    firefox -safe-mode

    while testing the problem reappeared. this is getting frustrating is anyone else having this problem in ubuntu 12.04 lts?

    to re-explain the problem and possibly in greater detail when playing videos (mainly youtube) The video suddenly freezes and begins and endless buffering cycle.

    I believe possible causes may be internet connection or the tweaks i had to make to flash to fix the blue and red pallets switching on videos such as youtube videos(here is a link to that problem here) (i used second solution the modify flash players library)

    iv run several speed tests and sometimes they seem to experience a simalar problem of hanging up any help would be appreciated
