Ok, here's the deal. I'm fairly good at removing this stuff and I even help my friends, but this has me completely stumped. Let me tell you the scenario.

Last night, my computer started playing rock music and commercials through my speakers. I think I have that sort of resolved as of this morning. I downloaded AVG and Ad-Aware, which is my normal course of action since it's worked for me in the past. Viewmanager (or viewpoint manager....i didn't write it down) and google installer kept crashing for some reason and giving me error messages, and then the music would start playing. I googled this problem and came to this site. I uninstalled the old Java runtimes, uninstalled viewpoint media player, and used Ccleaner to clean up my start up. It has seemed to fix THAT problem, but I knew something else was up.

I downloaded all the tools from this site such as Malware Bytes, MG, combofix, and SAS. SAS does NOT work. It crashes upon startup, and even crashes in safe mode. Malware bytes does NOT work either, in regular or safe mode. The mabm.exe shows up in task manager, but it never starts up. It took forever to install as well, and froze upon finishing the install the first time. Now I have this annoying as heck Windows Antivirus Pro that doesn't let me open or start any programs unless I use task manager to shut it down, and it starts back up every 10 seconds. It redirects me to this site every time I shut it down using the program itself. http://join2684.billmeplease.biz/signup.cgi?ver=3&aff=1241.

So, to make a long story short, let me tell you everything I've done so far.

-music starts playing on pc...nothing shows up in task manager.
-I use taskmanager to close iexplore.exe. Music stops temporarily.
-viewpoint manager and google installer keep crashing, then music starts.
-I uninstall viewpoint manager and crashing / music goes away.
-I ALSO notice my screen saver does not come on anymore and my monitor power mode does not work.
-Download and run AVG and Ad Aware - I think that they did the trick....
    -computer mysteriously reboots.
-upon reboot, this stupid windows antivirus pro keeps popping up.
-go download malware bytes, SAS, combo fix, MG, hijack this, Avenger.
-Install SAS. SAS crashes upon start, including safe mode.
-install MAB. mabm.exe runs, but program never starts, including safe mode.
-Run AVG and Ad-aware in safe mode. Here's two things found by AVG.

\\?\globalroot\systemroot\system32\UACxojwejvmpk.dll Virus found Win32/Cryptor Object was moved to Virus Vault.
C:\WINDOWS\system32\svchost.exe (712) Virus found Win32/Cryptor Object was moved to Virus Vault.
HKCR\exefile\shell\open\command\\ Found registry key with reference to file C:\WINDOWS\system32\desot.exe Object was healed.

Adaware found something like trojan.tdsst or something like that. I couldn't get a log from it. I'll attach the AVG log. I just had it scan the C drive and stop at the D: drive.

-So, I dig further on this site. I find http://forums.majorgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=176226 but now I cannot access system in my control panel. I open it, but it never pops up.

-Now, google installer crashed again while writing this post.

I'm @ my wits end here, y'all. Help?

Oh, now I have "TODO: <File description> has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience." It's a legit windows error message apparently. Ugh.....I'm to the point of a reinstall.

Oh, and now...Sort Utility has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience. Another legit windows message.

There's a non-legit windows message that pops up about svchost.exe crashing, but it's related to the windows antivirus pro bullcrap.

So, while I'm writing this down, I start running MG. I get a processdll.exe - common language runtime debugging services error - application has generated an exception that could not be handled - process id=0xb0c(2828), thread id=0x830(2096).

Attached are AVG scan and MGtools.zip. If you need anything else, I'd be more than happy to post it.

I know we're not supposed to bump, but I think I'm to the point of a fresh windows reinstall tonight. The music came back on and I cannot shake this piece of malware to save my life.

Another strange thing.......I now have an administrator option in safe mode, whereas I do not run an admin and a separate user. I now also cannot use Nero because I'm supposed to install Nero burning rights. It's almost like the permissions in my main account have been turned off.

    Welcome to Major Geeks!

The bump just cost you at least 2 more days of delay in getting answered. It you have not already reinstalled then continue on with the below. You just have a CLB type rootkit (also referred to as TDSS or UAC rootkit). You got it from the Windows Antivirus Pro that was installed.

You did not mention trying to run RootRepeal as we requested. If it was able to run it would have shown us all the related files for the infection. Did you try running it?

You need to put this PC into normal startup mode with MSconfig as requested in step 4 of the READ & RUN ME FIRST.

Run C:\MGtools\analyse.exe by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator). This is really HijackThis (select Do a system scan only) and select the following lines but DO NOT CLICK FIX until you exit all browser sessions including the one you are reading in right now:

    O2 - BHO: ICQSys (IE PlugIn) - {76DC0B63-1533-4ba9-8BE8-D59EB676FA02} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\dddesot.dll
    O2 - BHO: (no name) - {7E853D72-626A-48EC-A868-BA8D5E23E045} - (no file)
    O23 - Service: AntipyProex (AntipPro2009_100) - Unknown owner - C:\WINDOWS\svchast.exe
    O23 - Service: Viewpoint Manager Service - Unknown owner - C:\Program Files\Viewpoint\Common\ViewpointService.exe (file missing)

    After clicking Fix, exit HJT.

Now download The Avenger by Swandog46, and save it to your Desktop.
    • Extract avenger.exe from the Zip file and save it to your desktop
    • Run avenger.exe by double-clicking on it.
    • Do not change any check box options!!
    • Copy everything in the Quote box below, and paste it into the Input script here: part of the window:
    • Now click the Execute button.
    • Click Yes to the prompt to confirm you want to execute.
    • Click Yes to the Reboot now? question that will appear when Avenger finishes running.
    • Your PC should reboot, if not, reboot it yourself.
    • A log file from Avenger will be produced at C:\avenger.txt and it will popup for you to view when you login after reboot.

Also delete all files in the below folders except ones from the current date (Windows will not let you delete the files from the current day).
    C:\WINDOWS\TEMP
    C:\Documents and Settings\Paco\Local Settings\Temp\

Now run Ccleaner. Only use the Run Cleaner button. Do not run anything else on any other forms.

Now run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator).

    Then attach the below logs:
    • C:\avenger.txt
    • C:\MGlogs.zip
Make sure you tell me how things are working now!
