And I've attached an image, maybe you can figure something out through the image.

Basicaly, I go to open a VB program usually. Uhh like Zonelog Analyzer, when I click Dshield Submission the installer will appear and show what I've shown you.

I press cancel a couple times and then the program I want appears.

Hi again does this happen when you open win amp for example or is it zone analyzer what other file triggers it?

    Balbanebeoulve Bal. Balba. Babalabawhosemawhutsie

    Hmm, not winamp.

    But let's see, ...

I doubt you've heard of it, but AIMunlimited, which is a program to make multiple AIM accounts.

Or MassMail, which is used to send like newsletters and such.

Those were programs made in VB, but the author isn't very famous. Just small VB files he has made.

If you know some programs that are in made in VB, I guess I can try them, to see if it happens with all VB programs.

These programs don't need to be installed, they're stand alone EXE files.

Well it only happens when I try to open them...

So if they're not there, it won't happen...

But I've uninstaller Zonelog analyser anyway.

And all my programs are green, according to adrm

I don't mind using different software but I really would like to kill the stupid program that's hiding in my registries :(

But if we can't, it can't be helped.

    Thanks a lot guys,

    We got close!

Hi Balbanebeoulve you will most probably find that with a different choice of software it will go away on its own.As you say we got close and maybe we will find the answer one day

    Kind Regards:)

    Not Spyware

    Hey,

I am the author of P2P Share Spy.

I don't remember you ever writing me about this, but here is what is going on:

We use Microsoft Installer to install the program. It is normally pretty good, but sometimes it gets finnicky about restoring deleted files.

This is a safety feature to make sure that if a file gets corrupted it is restored from the installer.

I think what is happening is that you deleted some non-essential file (like a desktop link?) and now the installer is trying to restore it every time the program is run.

If you just let those files sit around on your desktop until you uninstall the software, there shouldn't be a problem.

I'm not sure why this problem happens on some computers, but not others, or why it is still happening after you have uninstalled the software. You might want to try installing the most recent version from our site (http://www.rebrandsoftware.com/software2.asp) and then uninstalling it again.

If that still doesn't help, try some google searches about MSI (Microsoft Installer) launching repeatedly. That is where the problem lies.

Tried your idea, sadly it did not work Mike.

Do you have any other suggestions?

I reinstalled it and uninstaller through add/remove.

Tried a VB program and the installer appeared once again.

    :(

There's somewhere in the registry that stores all the installed MSI's. You should be able to delete the P2P Share Spy MSI entry from there and then it won't try to restore files from it again.

I am running out the door right now, but when I get back if you haven't found what I'm talking about I'll look through the registry and see if I can find it.

I really don't know a lot about MSI files, the installer comes with VB Studio 6 Pro, and I just go through the wizard to make the installers.

We have started removing the Desktop links from all our software so that this sort of thing doesn't happen anymore.

Anyway, let me know if you have any luck with that suggestion.

    -Mike

    Registry for MSI files

Try looking through the entries under this registry key and see if you see one for P2P Share Spy:

    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Installer\Products

If so, delete everything under the product ID folder (the big string of numbers) that contains the P2P Share Spy MSI key.

I *think* that will prevent MS Installer from trying to repair missing files for P2P Share Spy.

Let me know if that doesn't work.

    Hey,

Sorry I went missing for a while. I checked back a day or two after my last post, and there weren't any replies yet. After that I forgot to check again. I think the email notifications are being moved to my junkmail folder, where I miss them.

I looked through the registry file you uploaded and I can't find anything suspect.

I am going to read through your posts again and see if I can find anything suspect. I'll post ideas here in a minute.

    Ok, here's an idea.

I think what's happened is that the original installation was never removed, you probably just deleted files the files, right?

    So, download the installer again.

The next time you see the popup asking you to locate the installer, browse to it and select it.

Hopefully, the program will then restore all the missing parts of the original installation.

When it's done, run the installer like normal. It should prompt you to either remove or repair the software. Select "Remove P2P Share Spy Demo" (or try to do it from Add/Remove Programs)

Let me know if that works.

I want to try it but I don't know how to only remove your software. I'm afraid other programs I use that may use MSI. So could you tell me what I should type into command line? Just in case I don't screw up any other program, "Products installed by the installer may fail to function after using Msizap." So I don't want to remove all of them...

    Thanks again.

Well.. if the product code hasn't changed since you originally installed it, it will be:

    {FC48EE58-0295-45F9-A34D-FD0A1591DA9B}

The only way it would have changed is if I clicked the product code button by accident since I created the installer you used. It's unlikely.

So, from the looks of it, you would do this:

    msizap T[WA!] {FC48EE58-0295-45F9-A34D-FD0A1591DA9B}

  25. Balbanebeoulve

    Balbanebeoulve Bal. Balba. Babalabawhosemawhutsie

    It says:

'msizap' is not recognized as an internal batch or external command, operable program or batch file.

    =/ What should I do?

    Thanks for your patience.

  26. rebrandsoftware

    rebrandsoftware Private E-2

I think you need to navigate in a dos prompt to the same directory that the .exe file is in, then type the command.

You can test if it will work by typing "msizap", and it should display an overview of commands that you can enter.

That way you'll know it will work before you try typing that big long code. : )

  27. Balbanebeoulve

    Balbanebeoulve Bal. Balba. Babalabawhosemawhutsie

This is odd, msizap doesn't work. It just says it isn't recognized...

Hmm,...I tried navigating to C:\windows and \system but msizap didn't work in there either...

Does it work on your system?

    I'm running XP home.

  28. rebrandsoftware

    rebrandsoftware Private E-2

Well, first you have to download the SDK and install it (pain).

Then you need to navigate to the same folder as msizap.exe, which should be C:\Program Files\Microsoft SDK\Bin

Then type "msizap" and you should see a bunch of instructions come up on the screen. If it works, type the command I gave you and (hopefully) it will remove all remnants of the installer.

I have to get to bed, but I'll check back and see if it worked.

Thanks for all the help and patience.
