telemarketer: hello this MCI blah blah

pyrate: hi, could I have your number so I could call back when I'm free?

telemarketer: ok, sir could you tell us a time when it's convenient to call?

pyrate: Actually, I'd prefer your home phone number so I can interupt your dinner and we can discuss MCIs billing plan then

telemarketer: sir we're not calling to harass blah blah blah **click**

    ok it's been done before**shrugz**

Also, if you tell them not to call you any more instead of hanging up on them, then legally they have to place you on their company's individual "do not call" list regardless of whether they fall under the criteria of the national list or not.

I'm not sure if it was MCI or not, but I did tell more than one to take my name off the list

I put the phone down and put on speaker until they catch their breath

Then I ask them if they know it is a $10,000 fine to call someone on a DNC list? I tell them I don't want them to call back.

Or I mess with them as long as I can...... :D

Before you start threatening people with fines because you're on the DNC list, you should research what exactly the DNC list covers. Companies with which you've previously done business or are currently a customer (such as MCI) are exempt. Political calls are exempt. Fundraising calls are exempt. Many more are exempt.

And you can't just say "don't call me any more" and hang up. You have to tell them to remove your name from their call list, and listen to the response. Businesses are not required to remove you if you say "don't call me any more" and hang up. Also, if they've called and asked for a specific person and you are not that person, they don't have to remove you from their list. If that person tells them, then they do.

oh yea ... lol ... I've gotten that too ,., where they ask for joe shmoe ... they say things like "i know I have the right number but the wrong person" ... I always insist they have the wrong number regardless of what they say, even if they recite the number .. I'm like nah, wrong number

Depends on the mood I am in. I sometimes simply reply What to everything they say. Then insist they put me on a dnc list.

Besides I am usally tied up on MG at night anyway since i am on dialup.

What I do now is, I ask them to hold on for a second, and then I hand the phone to my 2 year old son. He tells them all about choo choo trains and Santa Claus and Bob Bob Pants (thats what he calls Spongebob Sqaurepants).

After a few minutes, I'll take the phone back. They usually hang up.

try this one on for size. Your deadbeat roomate puts your cell phone # on his bad checks and then you have to put up with collections calls 3 times a day. Try getting THOSE people to understand that you're not that person, nor will he ever be at this number.
