I have a virus that is causing problems on my computer. I have Avast! anti-virus and if I try to run a scan my computer Avast is stopped and disabled. If I try to run Win-patrol it is stopped and I can't re-open it. If I try to run MBAM it is stopped and I can't re-open it. Combofix won't run and neither will root repeal. I tried running superantivirus scan and it is stopped after about 10 seconds. I haven't noticed any change in the way that my system runs, but I do get alerts every once in a while from Avast but Avast can't quarantine the errors.

I am kind of at a loss here. I really don't know what to do. I would just wipe my system out and start again but I don't have a windows 7 disc to re-load windows. My cousin had me run DDS and this is the resulting scan - it is a few weeks old but maybe it will help:

    Welcome to MajorGeeks!

You could try running the below online scan to get us to the point of being able to provide the requested logs from running READ & RUN ME FIRST. Malware Removal Guide

If you really cannot run anything to provide us information that we need to perform a proper diagnosis, your option would be to use another PC to try create one or more of the below CDs to boot from that allow you to run scans and perform many other tasks without Windows even being loaded. Sometimes this can help to get you started when all else fails. They can even help in cases where a previous scan may have removed something that resulted in your PC being unbootable.

Thanks so much for the help! I am so frustrated I want to cry. I've tried reinstalling MBAM several times and each time it is disabled when I try to use it. Ugh!

I ran ESET - it came back with "no threats found"

Should I try running one of the rescue CD's at this point?

No - try the below instructions:

Please download and run the below tool named Rkill (courtesy of BleepingComputer.com) which may help allow other programs to run.

There are 4 different versions. If one of them won't run then download and try to run the other one.

Vista and Win7 users need to right click and choose Run as Administrator

You only need to get one of them to run, not all of them. You may get warnings from your antivirus about this tool, ignore them or shutdown your antivirus.
    1. Rkill.exe
    2. Rkill.com
    3. Rkill.scr
    4. Rkill.pif
If you are having problems running Rkill, you can download iExplore.exe or eXplorer.exe, which are renamed copies of Rkill.com, and try them instead.

Once you've gotten one of them to run then try to immediately run the following.

Now download and Run exeHelper from Raktor
    • Please download exeHelper to your desktop.
    • Double-click on exeHelper.com to run the fix.
    • A black window should pop up, press any key to close once the fix is completed.
    • A log file named log.txt will be created in the directory where you ran exeHelper.com
    • Attach the log.txt file to your next message.
Note: If the window shows a message that says "Error deleting file", please re-run the program before posting a log - and post the two logs together (they will both be in the one file).

If you already have them installed, be sure to update Malwarebytes and SUPERAntiSpyware before the scan!

Now run this: Using Malwarebytes Anti-Malware

Then run this: SUPERAntiSpyware - running & getting a log

    Next run this: Using MGtools

Now you need to attach (See: HOW TO: Attach Items To Your Post ) the below logs created while running the above scans
    • exeHelper log
    • Malwarebytes Anti-Malware log
    • SUPERAntiSpyware log
    • MGlogs.zip - normally it is C:\MGlogs.zip - only attach this log from MGtools.exe DO NOT attach any logs seen in the MGtools folder.

    NOTE:
    1. If you have problems downloading on the problem PC, download the tools and the manual updates for Malwarebytes onto another PC and then burn to a CD. Then copy them to the problem PC. Yes you could use a flash drive too but flash drives are writeable and infections can spread to them.
