Hmm, at midnight when NJ posted I would think that most of the UK would be in bed. However, I'm back...

 

The phone service didn’t go down, it was just so many people trying to use their mobiles to say they were ok or to find out about friends and family, and some sections were reserved for the emergency services. The internet was fine too, just some sites like the BBC and Reuters overloaded as we tried to find out what was happening. But the tv channels ran more or less continuous service, bringing the latest news. I was lucky - I had changed my mind about taking the tube into the centre of town in the morning. Instead I spent most of the day looking from TV screen to computer.
