i just got DSL access (via verizon) and i was able to get on the internet pretty easily. i can access all common sites like yahoo, google, cnn etc. but i am having trouble gettin thru to a few sites that require login. though i am able to access yahoo, i cannot access my mail on yahoo, mail on netscape etc. i cannot access my mail on hotmail either from my browser or using outlook express. in all cases, i can access the login pages, but when i submit my userid/password, i cannot get any furhter. i get a "page cannot be displayed" error on IE and "document contains no data" on mozilla. i had no problems with gmail though.

when i VPN-ed into my office network over my DSL connection, i was able to access all the above sites without any problem which leads me to belive that the problem is with the verizon DSL.

has anyone seen such behaviour? am i missing something basic here?

    thanks in advace,
    jt.

I have exactly the same problem since I transferred to ADSL from Cable broadband, can't access hotmail or yahoo mail via the web based interface, though I can get to the login screen on yahoo, and can actually see if I have new messages on yahoo, it just wont let me into the inbox and times out.

I can access hotmail on outlook, but yahoo wont get past the authentication stage when it checks the mail server. Both of these were set up using the instructions posted on the relevant MSN/yahoo site.

In addition I cannot upload pictures to sites like photobucket etc.

I have looked at the hardware firewall and set it to "allow all" for both incoming and outgoing traffic, and can't think of any other tweaks to use for this. I'm running a software firewall too, but this doesnt make any difference if it is turned off, and it worked before I switched to ADSL.

If it matters, I'm using a NEtgear router and the ADSL is supplied by Bulldog.

Hope someone can help before I spend around three hours on the phone waiting for technical support from Bulldog!!!!
