For malware, send them to our malware forum. Also, stop linking out for downloads and tutorials, its all here.

Fair enough, Major. In the future if I think it may be a malware issue I’ll just send them to your malware forum. However I’m not sure what you are referring to when you say “Also, stop linking out for downloads and tutorials, its all here.”

The information in the post which you edited out in this thread contained no ‘tutorials’ - just a link to one article which I thought might be related to the 'desktop properties' issue that the original poster was referring to. My post also contained only one single program download link; and that was for Ewido Anti-Malware 3.5 and was not ‘linked out’ it pointed directly to the link available here at Major Geeks.

I’ll often post a link to a program which I think might be useful to someone's particular situation, issue or problem. But before I post anything in this forum, I invariably go out of my way to ensure that the program is not available here first; even though the MG search mechanism is a bit primitive and often comes up with several pages of possibilities with none of the lists are in alphabetical order.

Sometimes I might say "Be sure to check Program XYZ’s’ Forum if you have any issues or questions about it!" but before I click 'Submit Reply' the programs links and any other relevant MG information are always checked first to see if they are available here.

Since you're a moderator/owner here; I’m sure that you have access to all of my posts. Feel free to check through a few of my recent posts if you wish. I doubt that you’ll find a single link to any program application, utility or "tutorial" or which is available here at Major Geeks.

MA I must say I take exception to your edit of compuables post, I always search out compuables post mainly because his research is usually more extensive than most others. He always gives the poster many options, and lets them choose. He invariable has numerous links to both programs and solutions that are available here on MG, and gives his candid opinion on how they have worked for himself. He also gives you the poster other links which we may not know about as Steve does. I personally feel that compuable along with a few others are MG biggest assets, they are the reason I am here, and why I tell ALL my friends to come here. And MA that statement "it's all here" shame, shame, that reminds me of the man who says he's always right, and I think I know you enough to say that, that is a statement that does not do you justice!!

Hi BCGray, and thanks for your comments. ;)

I appreciate all of your posts and the other forum members’ great posts here at Major Geeks as well!

I have absolutely no objection being edited by one of the owners if the post was not according to the rules. I actually appreciate very much the fact that this forum is well monitored by the likes of Abby Sue and Major Attitude, etc. and I believe I have posted something to that effect a number of times since I joined Major Geeks. This method keeps out trolls and those who do not post correct or perhaps harmful information, tips, etc.

I also have no objection to Major Attitude’s insistence that the links to programs be isolated to "Major Geeks ONLY!" – that is, if they are actually available here. However for a forum which makes such an issue about inside/outside links; they certainly do not make finding out whether or not the program is available right here at Major Geeks an easy task!

I must admit; I was a bit taken aback by at the "stop linking out for downloads" comment from the Major, though; because I spend an inordinate amount of time to search the links to see if they are listed here first - prior to posting any reply. It probably takes me longer to uncover the MG link than it does to type out my actual reply when someone needs a particular program or utility to solve their issue.

I can remember one time in particular; when someone asked about which was the best non-spyware download accelerator; asking which program was reliable, fast, spyware-free etc. I happened to have tested several of these accelerator types; and particularly Free Download Manager which I'd tested pretty thoroughly in the past.

As I was preparing a reply to the posters question; I entered the search term "Free Download Manager" into the Major Geeks search engine and received something like 770+ search results; none of which was even was alphabetized! Even if you copied all those links over to a Word Document - for easier viewing - this comes to a list of something like 16 or 17 pages!

And to top that off; the search results were spread out over about eight long pages; in that tiny Green on Green font color [I think it's actually called "PleaseSquintGreen"]; so even if the program is indeed listed it can be very easy to miss seeing it.

    Good Luck!

Use the google site search, just below the Majorgeeks search box. It's much more accurate and relevant.

Yes, our search is advanced, it really needs + between words for specifics, the google choice works well.
