    Hi everyone

I am looking for help solving this problem if anyone can be so kind as to help!
The site in question is www.modelmayhem.com which I have been using daily on a desktop machine for over 4 years but since last weekend I have been unable to access it with any of the 3 browsers I have installed - IE9, Chrome and Firefox 10.2 the later being the one I was using before and since the problem arose. The error message I get on Firefox is "Connection was reset) ie timeout and inaccessible.

The computer is connected to the internet via a Ethernet cable plugged into a wireless router which in turn is into a modem. Using my Windows phone 7 I am able to access the site via the wireless router which I have assumed means that there is no problem with my isp etc.

I was running Eset, Superantispyware and Malwarebytes non of which found any problems, and I have since un-installed them in case one of them was the cause. I have also searched all files and the registry for any occurrence of the site in both text form and its ISP number I have since installed the latest version of Eset again.

I cannot ping the site but as it isn't possible for a ping from websitenotworking.com to get a result it may well be due to the site admin have measures to prevent a ping. The site is however accessible via websitenotworking.com.

I have run CC cleaner, flushed the dns cache etc all to no avail, and I think I have tried all of the suggestions I have found in other similar threads on here. Eset has a network connection viewer which if I use Firefox reports that there is an outward connection to 98.158.196.55 with just 1kb sent and zero received. Does this indicate that there is no problem with the dns cache ?

I hope someone can help solve this .. please !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    regards

    Wes

It is served off of godaddy.com, so I am guessing that your IP is possibly "Blacklisted" on their servers. Where are you located?

    Hi

    Thanks for the reply !
    I am in the UK.
I can use my mobile phone to access the site via the same internet connection so it doesn't seem as if it it blacklisted. I have also contacted my isp (virginmedia.com)and they say there is no problem accessing it either.

    cheers

I copy/pasted the link you gave into my address bar and got there with no problem.
Might need to make an exception for it in your firewall configurations.
Say that you trust the site.

Hi and Thanks for taking time to continue looking at this problem

I had previously reset the stack but followed the links you supplied and did a reset of the winsock and stack

netsh int ip reset reset.log hit
    netsh int ip reset resetlog.txt
but sadly again its not made any difference :(

The third link you gave only appears to link back to this thread, is that intentional or was there a further link for me to try ?

    again many thanks

    Wes

What firewall software are you using? you could try and do a uninstall of the device driver, and/or try a repair of the OS.

Try this...won't hurt and it may clear things up

Turn off your wireless router, then turn off your modem...wait 30-60 seconds.

Turn on your modem and allow time for it to connect.

Turn on your wireless router and allow time for it to connect.

    Try the problem website again.

Routers/modems sometimes get clogged up (advanced technical term!) and a reboot clears things out :)

    Thanks !
I have tried that several times over in fact I have even deleted the network connection and installed the router from scratch this afternoon as I am getting more and more frustrated

    Hi and thanks yet again
Currently I am using ESET, which I deleted a version of yesterday and tried without to no avail. I have also tried it with the native windows firewall before I reinstalled the latest ESET

Which device driver do you mean ?

I am coming to the idea of a repair of the OS and if not even a reformat start again, but I really do not want to do !

I thought earlier of a system restore, but was shocked to find that the facility was turned off, I do forget things due to all the medication I am on but I am sure it was running a couple of weeks ago !

Have you looked at your host file? It's usually located at C:\Windows\System32\Drivers\etc\host

Most any text editor will open it.

There may be something in there blocking or redirecting it.

    Hi thanks for your response
There is nothing in there to cause any problems !

It really is a mystery what on earth could be causing it!

    Wes,

I might be wrong, but weighing everything that you've done I can't imagine that the problem is so broad to include the OS, so don't do anything drastic (at least not yet!). It seems as if it's something that's very specific, like a software block on that specific site. Rebooting modem and router didn't do anything, and your HOSTS file is good, so that doesn't leave much else that I can think of.

I know you think the wireless router is good, but can you bypass it and hook your computer up directly to the cable modem? Or can you take your computer to a friend's house and use their hardware and ISP and try accessing the site? If the latter allows access, then the only other thing I can think of is that the site somehow has specifically blocked your home I.P. address, which I think would be extreme in the worst circumstances, though maybe they've somehow wrongly associated your I.P. address with a flood of email or some such thing...dunno.

In any case, and if everything else is absolutely normal with your computer, I don't think it's your OS or an obscure driver or something like that. If it were me I'd be taking my computer and Ethernet cable to another house (with different ISP) and trying there.

Good luck and tell us how it turns out.

Well Virgin Medias promise to have the problem solved for me by mid afternoon was not kept so I contacted their support to be told via a very polite Asian Lady that she couldnt access the site and offered no other help, when I said that the previous support guy had accessed the site she just said she needed someone to help her and that I should call call back tomorrow.

Not happy with that I waited 5 minutes and phoned again and this time spoke to an Indian guy, who within seconds had the issue worked out and guided me me through filling in details of their proxy server in my browser options , with immediate success !

Since it seems this problem has occurred with a few people it may be one way to try at the outset !

    Thanks again everyone

    Wes
