I'm not sure exactly what I was doing when I noticed a problem last night. Thought (erroneously) that it was my mouse button at first, not allowing me to open up shortcuts and icons on my desktop.

So, problems with my shortcuts and the fact that the taskbar had disappeared was what I first noticed as a problem.

I looked up a fix on-line and ran the linkfile_fix (from zip file) I found. That seemed to cure the problem. Shortcuts worked, and when I asked that the taskbar show, it did,and stayed there. I restarted.

I checked icons and then noted that I was unable to open My Computer and other folders on the desktop, but the shortcuts were fine. I was also unable to access the functions in the Start Menu (except Run). I'm not really sure if those were working specifically before I ran the fix, though the shortcuts were definitely not working.)

I came across a post that seemed similar to this problem (but now I am not able to find it again) and so I followed the instructions for Mal-ware removal that your forum describes. I installed and ran everything as directed. I am attaching only 4 logs, as the TDSSKiller program found no problems and did not create a log.

In MalWare Bytes, there were two items found and removed.

I am running XP for a Tablet PC. I have Norton 360 for antivirus. I have Norton Utilities 14, which I did run some thing earlier this past week to clean files and registry. I didn't notice any immediate difference, though I did decide to run the program because I was having a series of episodes of Windows Explorer unexpectedly quitting on me.

    Thanks for your time.

    Welcome to Major Geeks!

You do not appear to be having malware problems. Your logs are clean. You may want to try running System Restore to return to a point before the problem began. Other than that, I suggest that you post in the Software Forum.
