Unable to access User Control Panel

When I click on the User Account icon in control panel explorer it doesnt do anything ?

 

Are you logged on as administrator when you try to access it? Or did you create a restricted account for yourself when you installed?

 

admin account , I think the actual usercontrol panel doesnt exist I dont currently have my xp disc but is there anywhere to download the neccesarry fix

 

What version of xp are ye running? XP home/pro? What service pack level? 1, 2, 3?

After opening the control panel and double click on the user account icon the mouse pointer will act like something is loading but then nothing will happen ???

 

You can download any XP Pro disk to use for the fix, it doesn't have to be the original disk. If you want to do a complete system reinstall (all your data will remain intact but you will loose your critical updates) there is a cool tutorial written by Fred Langa (used to work at MS) that will show you how to do it.

Its pulled me out of the fire on several occasions. All your data remains intact but you'll spend hours redownloading all your critical updates and thats on a fast broadband connection. So what I do is first get a hold of autopatcher to give me most of the updates and then go to the MS site for the rest. It requires that the XP disk have SP2 on it so when you go to download one be sure to choose wisely.

Autopatcher was stopped my microsoft but they created a new version that downloads right from the site called (APUP) I select the first three catagories as well as Extras, Dot Net and Directx. The total download will be about 700mb and take an hour to install.
