Unable to change Explorer Home

    Hi

    last night i made a bad mistake which i regret now, and managed to get some malware on my comp, one of which was a Fake virus warning which changed my Home page to a site to download fake antivirus software...

    My operating System is Windows XP Home Edition
    Ram-512mb
    Xp SP1

    anything more needed on my spec? ask and i will gladly add :)

    I have Cleaned my PC now, and all the things have been Deleted, but it is not allowing me to change the homepage from that site... if there is a way, please help.

    or am i going to have to reinstall Windows Explorer...and if so where can i get the installer for Windows internet explorer 6? (still on SP1)

    I cleaned my PC using:

    Stinger 2.60
    McAfee Virus Scan
    Adware Personal edition

    Welcome to Majorgeeks!

    Please follow our standard cleaning procedures which are necessary for us to provide you support. Also there are steps included for installing, running, and posting HijackThis logs as attachments. Make sure you install HJT properly per step 7 of the READ ME because you were running it incorrectly in your log.
    • Run ALL the steps in this Sticky thread READ & RUN ME FIRST Before Asking for Support
    • Make sure you check version numbers and get all updates.
    • Very Important: Make sure you tell us the results from running the tutorial...was anything found? Were you unable to complete any of the scans?...Were you unable to download any of the tools?...Did you do the on-line scans as suggested? etc.
    • After doing ALL of the above you still have a problem make sure you have booted to normal mode and run the steps in the below link to properly use HijackThis and attach a log:
    • When you return to make your next post, make sure you attach the following logs and that you have run these scans in the following order too (these scans are covered in steps 6 & 7 of the READ & RUN ME sticky)
      • Bitdefender
      • Panda Scan
      • HijackThis

    I have a trojan Downloader thing turns out...and nothing is getting rid of it, so we are wiping my Hardrive and Starting all over again :(
