    Asus x750J Laptop
    1600x900 native resolution

I recently tried to connect my laptop via HDMI to the Samsung 55" SmartTV I have and I was adjusting the resolutions to find the best look for it. It was the first time I had ever tried it. I was then noticing no sound came out, so I was looking all over my settings, couldn't find anything that would fix that. So I looked online for a solution, and the solution that I found worked was simply rebooting the computer with it already connected to the tv.

Back to the problem. After I finished using it that day, I disconnected it and perhaps it was not that particular moment, but next day when I got back on my computer I noticed my taskbar and Icons were unusually large. My windows all opened as if I had lowered my resolution. I check my resolution setting and it's set to 1600x900 which is the native resolution for my screen, yet it says in green text right above where you change it that the resolution is set lower than 1400x1080, and that I should consider raising it. I've also been dealing with malware issues but it seems for the most part that I've got that sorted out. I'm not sure what's going on with my display. I did make sure to go to my display drivers and click the "update drivers" button and it said they were all up to date.

Any help would be much appreciated. Thank you.

    OS Windows 8.1 64 bit

Unable to find what service pack I have. Perhaps because I have none?

I went to Control Panel->System and Security->System. Under the System info it shows

    Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-4700HQ CPU @2.40gz 2.40gz
Installed memory (RAM): 8.00 GB (7.45GB usable)
System type: 64-bit operating system, x64-based processor
Pen and Touch: No Pen or Touch input is available for this display

Nothing else shows. Also I am posting about my screen resolution in the Software forum because after having made my post in the Malware forum and after doing the READ & RUN ME, having had it checked by an admin already, Chaslang looked over my last logs, because i've been at this for about 2 and a half weeks, and he said as far as my resolution issues to post in the Software forum. Haven't gotten the official free and clear to do the last steps but he said regarding that issue to post here.

The only reason I even mentioned the fact that I was dealing with malware in the first place was to make understood that it's clearly not a malware issue.

I uninstalled ZoneAlarm with that handy tool thank you. but before then I downloaded Private firewall and Avast! antivirus. I had Avast! download Chrome for me and its working perfectly. I unchecked the option to have it download the Google toolbar to Internet Explorer though. If any other information I can provide you to resolve this issue, please let me know. I also noticed 2 indentical desktop.ini files on my desktop, which upon looking them up, realized they've always been there, just hidden, and not a virus. Would that be responsible for my lowered resolution?

Found solution. From desktop, right clicked to bring up menu, clicked on "Screen Resolution". From there, below screen resolution settings, clicked on the link that says "Make text and other items larger or smaller" then under "change size of all items" header, reduced it from larger-150% to medium-125%. Then it prompts me to sign out to apply the changes.

This thread can now be closed. Thank you.

    Hi,

    A) - Open Display Settings by clicking the Start button Picture of the Start button, clicking Control Panel, clicking Appearance and Personalization, clicking Personalization, and then clicking Display Settings.

    B) - Under Resolution, move the slider to the resolution you want, and then click Apply.
