    Laptop:
    Qosmio x5050-q885 - Microsoft Windows 7
    Processor:
    Intel core i5 cpu m450 2.4 ghz
    Graphics Card:
    Nvidia GeForce GTS 360m
Driver date was 7/27/10 (i updated this yesterday from the 10/25/10 not sure if it worked or what?)

So the problem occurs while playing FF14 online... the game is running very smooth and the graphics are at standard settings then randomly (not necessarily during highly populated areas or anything) the game closes and gives this message :
"Unable to detect Directx devise. This program has shutdown. Please restart FF14"

and a bubble pops up from the toolbar that says:
"Display driver stopped responding and has recovered. Display driver NVIDIA Windows kernal mode driver, version 188.75 stopped responding and has successfully recovered"

First thing i did was update the Nvidia driver to version 260 and then the same error happened but it said "kernal mode 260..."

The computer is brand new as of three days ago...My brother purchased the exact same one and has experienced the exact same problem...

    Any suggestions?

    Thank you,

    Jarrod

Make sure all hardware components have updated drivers, installed from Intel/nVidia, etc., rather than the PC maker, they'll be much more recent.

Also download DirectX 9 from Microsoft, it'll make the gaming side more compatible than relying on DX10 to be fully backwards compatible.

Nvidia has been having weird driver issues lately... or maybe it's just me. :p

If you still have issues after you've installed DirectX 9 (anyone who wants to game on Vista or 7 should do that, by the way), reinstall your game and try again.

It's ok, installing DX9 won't supercede DX10, it only plugs some of the gaps and gives greater compatibility with the older versions which many games still require.

Link, if you still need it.
