    Hello Everyone!

I have done extensive research on this topic and have not been able to find a solution to it so I hope someone here can help me out. I am running Windows Vista Home Premium 64 bit and I am unable to install/uninstall/update iTunes. Everytime I try to do one of those options it stops during the installation process and gives me the error:

"The feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable. Click OK to try again, or enter an alternate path to a forlder containing the installation package 'iTunes64.msi' in the box below."

I redirect it to the correct folder with the file in it and I still get the same error message. I even downloaded "7-Zip" and extracted a brand new download from www.apple.com to remove the iTunes64.msi file. I redirected it to the new folder and it still will not work. Everything that I have read says I need to download Microsoft Installer Cleanup Utility, but Microsoft removed this from their website on June 25th of this year and I can not find it anywhere to download. Does anyone know how to resolve this issue without Microsoft Installer Cleanup Utility? Or is there someone out there that can direct me to a place to download it? Any advice would be helpful.

    Thanks in advance!

I tried that before posting here and was able to successfully install it, but it is nowhere to be found on the computer. It's not located in "Applications" and I even tried searching for it, but have not been able to find an actual program anywhere. What should I be looking for and where would it be located? I thought it was just a bad version of it.

Has anyone got an answer here? I just got an iTouch and have the same problem: iTunes won't install on my PC laptop with Vista Home Premium. Every fix I've read doesn't solve the problem. I keep getting:

The Windows Installer Service could not be accessed. This can occur if you are running Windows in safe mode, of if the Windows installer is not correctly installed. Contact your support personnel for assistance.

I've got Service Pack 2, on a Dell Studio 1737

The only way I was able to get it to work was to backup all of the files we thought were important on my girlfriend's computer and then restore it back to the factory setting from a recovery disk. I know it is a pain in the ***, but that is the only thing we could do to get it to work. Luckily I have a huge External Drive that would store everything on it. Once we restored the computer iTunes would install without a problem. I know it is not the answer you want, but it is the only thing that would work.

Thank God I have a Mac! Her next computer will be one also...

Sometimes iTunes for Windows can become a real headache.

If you have a System Restore point for a time just before you began your
install/uninstall process, I suggest that you use that to attempt a successful
restoration to a point prior to the point where the problems began.

At that point you should consider whether you want to continue using the program as is or remove it.

To get an idea of the type of problems that may occur with iTunes for Windows
and multiple attempts to fix them, I suggest you take a look at this thread.

Computer will only boot in debugging mode

The Microsoft Installer Cleanup Utility was used in that instance also, but to no avail.
Care should be taked when using this utility.
To my knowledge, it is no longer supported by Microsoft as it sometimes created problems with software not directly related to the attempted cleanup.

iTunes is a nice program and I personally like the interface, but it has a history
of problems with the Windows OS.

iTunes worked on Vista but not on Windows 7. I ended up uninstalling every
file I could find manually, every little thing connected with Apple. very tedious but worked. If I had a dollar for every time I have cursed this program I would be a very rich woman. Now altho itunes works it won't burn CDs. Still, nothing's perfect:cry
