Evening All, I have a Linksys WRT120n router which has been running just fine for a couple of years on my desktop (home built) with WinXP SP3. I recently decided to swing over to Win7 because of the impending demise of XP support. I have installed Win7 Ultimate and am in the process of re installing all my drivers and software etc. Using the old router settings I had made a note of and running the supplied set up disc I have managed to get it working OK but I cannot log on to 192.168.1.1. I have done numerous resets but I get a '401-authorisation required' message each time. I have tried my old password, admin/admin and blank/admin to no avail. The router is working perfectly well but it's disconcerting not being able to alter settings if I need to. Any ideas folks? PS I forgot to mention, the desktop is wired into the router and cable modem. All wiring is correct.

Plodr, thanks very much for the info but if you read my post I have already done numerous resets, as advised by Linksys and various members of the Linksys forums, from pressing the reset button for 10 seconds to a complete shut down of the computer and disconnection of the router and cable modem then a gradual reinstatement of the various components. Still no good. This all worked OK while on WinXP. Now it doesn't. PS the link you gave me did not work.

No, it has to be held for more than 30 seconds. A minute is much better.

Sorry about the link. It was a good article and mentioned updating the firmware but I can't find it presently.

I'll paste what I found now
    Code:

Plodr, thanks for your input. Sorry for the late reply but I've been chatting to Linksys support over the last couple of days. That was a waste of time!! I have just tried to link to the router setup page on my wife's laptop. Lo and behold it worked. I decided to check my Firefox settings and unchecked the 'do not track' request. Problem sorted. I can access the web page on this m/c. Your last suggestion was a possible browser fault so you hit the target!. Once again thanks.

Thanks for posting back what you discovered. This might help others with the same problem.

I use FF v 24, have the "Tell sites that I do not want to be tracked" selected under the privacy tab and have no problem accessing my router's (old Linksys) set up page 192.168.1.1
    I wonder what is different?
