I want to rip some of my music c.d.'s and put them on my mp3 player.

I've done it numerous times in the past; however, my computer no longer permits me to do this. I thought that the problem was caused by malware, but I recently performed a thorough malware removal, and rid my system of malware.

But the problem persists. Is the problem intentionally caused by Microsoft itself? Did they disable the ability to rip c.d.'s for legal copyright reasons?

I can rip them, but they do not show up in my library.

Please let me know. What is causing this?

    Service Pack 1

    Thanks.

I haven't ripped any CDs in 7. I don't set up WMP so I haven't tried doing anything with it. I also do not store files where MS wants me to. My libraries are empty.
I do own two SanDisk Clip+ mp3 players so I have done a fair bit of ripping.
I've used this program (Free version) in 2K ans XP
    http://www.freerip.com/
I checked and it works in 7.

If you prefer something else, here is the site I go to to check on programs.
    These are the free rippers

Thanks plodr. I'll check out those rippers you've suggested. :) They should work.

However, I would still like like ferret out the problem of why my usual method doesn't work. Because if it's malware, it might be causing other problems which I'm not yet aware of, but if it's a change which came from Microsoft, then I'll have peace of mind.

So if any other Windows 7 users have experienced this--or on the contrary, can still rip--then please let me know, because I want to get to the bottom of this.

What sort of error do you see when you pit a CD in and launch WMP to rip the songs?

    Hi Plodr,

I don't see any errors. The problem was that I couldn't find the albums or songs, after I ripped them. I pretty much solved the problem. It isn't a malware issue.
They were ripping into a different folder than the one I normally used. I don't know how it got changed.

I'm going through the process in a very circumspect way: I rip them using WMP. But now I rip them to a folder on my desktop (because for some reason, I cannot access the folder, from WMP, to which I used to rip them. It's weird.) So now I have a different folder to which I rip. Then, I complete the process my dragging and dropping from the desktop folder and into the MP3.

The only issue I now have is that when the c.d.'s rip, the names of albums and songs are NOT read (they simply say, "Unknown album", "Unknown track"). So I have to type the names in myself. What causes this? How can I change settings so that it reads the names from the c.d., so that I don't have to labour typing them all in?
