Unable to run CCleaner

    Seem to have a Malware problem. Trying to perform some of the suggestions. But I can't get CCleaner to work in normal mode - program won't respond when clicked on. Switched over to Safe Mode and the program will come up but stays active only for a few seconds. Suggestions?

    Welcome to Majorgeeks!

    If what you are trying to do is run the READ & RUN ME procedure, then use the below instead of CCleaner.

    Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune. This program does not require an installation. The executable actually runs the program.

    NOTE: This program is for Windows XP and Windows 2000 only. ATF Cleaner will remove all files from the items that are checked so if you have some cookies you'd like to save. Please move them to a different directory first.
    • Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
    • Under Main choose: Select All
    • Click the Empty Selected button.
    If you use Firefox browser
    • Click Firefox at the top and choose: Select All
    • Click the Empty Selected button.
      • NOTE: If you would like to keep your saved passwords, please click No at the prompt.
    If you use Opera browser
    • Click Opera at the top and choose: Select All
    • Click the Empty Selected button.
      • NOTE: If you would like to keep your saved passwords, please click No at the prompt.
    Click Exit on the Main ATF Cleaner menu to close the program.

    Would you have a similar replacement for Spyboot Search & Destroy. That one does the same thing - Let's me get in.. but won't let me perform any transaction. Thank you.

    No and if you are having problems like this with multiple applications, it probably would not help anyway. Sounds like you either have malware causing you problems or you have a problem within your OS. Just complete all steps in the READ & RUN ME that you can. Don't skip anything. Then when you come back to report results, tell us what you could run and what you could not run. If you get error messages, give us the exact error message. Make sure you attach the requested logs. The more of the logs you get us, the more likely we will be able to help you.

    ** I ran through the "Basic computer maint." results:
    ** In safe mode **
    1) was able to remove "strange" looking programs
    2) Could not clean HDD/Invalid reg/startup items as CCleaner is not responding. Did use ATF Cleaner (thank you)
    3) Had trouble w/ the Defrag downloads not working in safe mode

    *For the Prelim House Cleaning
    1) Uninstalled Malware
    2) Did the MSConfig startup Mode
    *For the Secondary House Cleaning
    1) Removed files from Norton ** there were none!?**
    2) Could not do the CCleaner - even tried to unistall and redownload
    *For the Enable viewing of hidden files
    1) performed those step w/ no issues
    *For the Multiple Antivirus/Firewalls
    1) I checked that .. I think I am ok there (Suggestions on how to confirm?)
    *For the Downloading Tools
    1) set up folders and got the GETRUNKEY and SHOWNEW files
    *For the SpyBot - Search and Destroy - CounterSpy - AVG
    1) enable to execute SpyBot and Search and Destroy
    2) could not get CounterSpy to work - Downloaded it (longtime) but could not get it to execute
    3) I got AVG to download and work... performed the operation as indicated.. ran "computer system scan". found hundreds of issues.. performed the "apply all actions" - started working.. but then it seemed to lock up. I waited 1/2 hour.. never did anything more. I ended the task, tried it again w/ same results.. I even rebooted and tried in 'NORMAL" mode but the program would not work.
    *For the Cleaning Malware
    1) set up in safe mode as indicated..
    2) can't run CCleaner or Spybot Search & Destroy.
    3) AVG runs but locks up before I am able to save a report.
    *For the Online Virus & Trojan Scan
    1) Sun Java would not download in Safe mode..Haven't tried in Normal.

    I left off there. Have I even gotten to a point were I can send you something. If I understand.. I haven't generated a 'log' yet. Should I just finish up w/ steps 6-10 in normal mode.. "if possible" and try to get something to you?

    Will retry steps tomorrow. Just want to make sure I am not heading down the wrong path..

    I appreciate your cooperation.

    *** in safe mode.. all the icons and screens become very large. Unable to see one whole program screen on the monitor. Is there a way to adjust that.

    Try to get me logs from GetRunKey, ShowNew and HijackThis (HJT is in step 7 - make sure you install and rename it exactly as requested.
