Unable to update Windows and others problems

    Problems:
This may have started a while back, when I Avira detected two files as TR/crypt.xpack.gen about once every session. I ran the "READ & RUN ME FIRST" post, and no longer have that problem, however, there is still something wrong with my computer which only started appearing recently (I did not find anything wrong with my computer when TR/crypt.xpack.gen was detected).

    Now, my problems are this:
Unable to update windows. When I try to run windows update from the control panel, I get error 80072EFE. In addition, automatic updates also seem to have been turned off, and every time I try to turn it back on, it is subsequently turned off again. I also cannot access the microsoft update site: it seems to connect to it, then the connection is reset while the page is loading.

Connection to random sites. I currently use Firefox ver 3.6.12, and every now and then, a new tab opens and connects to (what I feel as) a random site (this does not occur very often). In addition, sometimes, such as when I tried to access the wikipedia page on windows update, I was redirected to some random site (have not found another instance of this redirect, and am now able to access the wikipedia page freely).

There may be additional problems, but I am currently unsure if they still persist, but will update if needed.

Also, I was unable to run RootRepeal. When I open it, I get a "FOPS-DeviceIoControl Error! Error code = 0xc0000024 Extended Info (0x000000e8)".
If I click OK, then files>scan>C:\, I get "Could not initialize driver! Please contact the author!", followed by "Could not scan drive C (error 0xc0000024)"

Attached are my logs for the other four scans.

Please do this if you have not done so already.

Download DeFogger by jpshortstuff and save it to your desktop.

    • Double click DeFogger.exe to run the tool.
    • The application window will appear.
    • Click the Disable button to disable your CD Emulation drivers
    • Click Yes to continue.
    • A 'Finished!' message will appear.
    • Click OK.
    • DeFogger will now ask to reboot the machine...click OK.

    IMPORTANT!
If you receive an error message while running DeFogger, please post the log defogger_disable which will appear on your desktop.

Do not re-enable these drivers until otherwise instructed.

Important Notice: A new version of SUPERAntiSpyware is available.
    • Please uninstall your current version (this is necessary).
    • Then download this SUPERAntiSpyware
    • Install this new version. It may tell you that you need to reboot to complete the installation. You must reboot at this time.
    • After the reboot, run SUPERAntiSpyware and immediately click the Check for Updates button to get more updates for the database.
    • Now run a new full scan of your system. And attach this log later.

No site should be placed into your TZ.

    http://software.kuaiche.com

Now we need to use ComboFix
    • Make sure that combofix.exe that you downloaded while doing the READ & RUN ME is on your Desktop but Do not run it!
      • If it is not on your Desktop, the below will not work.
    • Also make sure you have shut down all protection software (antivirus, antispyware...etc) or they may get in the way of allowing ComboFix to run properly.
    • If ComboFix tells you it needs to update to a new version, make sure you allow it to update.
    • Open Notepad and copy/paste the text in the below quote box. Ensure you scroll down to select ALL the lines:
    Code:
    KILLALL::

    DirLook::
    c:\users\Mike\AppData\Roaming\W
    Folder::
    c:\users\Mike\AppData\Roaming\Caegf
    c:\users\Mike\AppData\Roaming\Gyex
    c:\users\Mike\AppData\Roaming\AVP 2009
    c:\users\Mike\AppData\Roaming\FixCleaner

    • Save the above as CFscript.txt and make sure you save it to the same location (should be on your Desktop) as ComboFix.exe
    • At this point, you MUST EXIT ALL BROWSERS NOW before continuing!
    • You should have both the ComboFix.exe and CFScript.txt icons on your Desktop.
    • Now use your mouse to drag CFscript.txt on top of ComboFix.exe

      http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v666/sUBs/CFScriptB-4.gif

    • Follow the prompts.
    • When it finishes, a log will be produced named c:\combofix.txt
    • I will ask for this log below

    Note:

Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it is running. That may cause it to stall.
Go to TDSSKiller and Download TDSSKiller.zip to your Desktop

    • Extract its contents to your Desktop so that you have TDSSKiller.exe directly on your Desktop and not in any subfolder of the Desktop.
    • Now double click the TDSSkiller.exe file to run it ( if using Vista or Windows 7 do not double click on it but rather, right click and select Run As Administrartor.
    • Allow the application to run and a window will open showing that it is TDSSkiller from Kaspersky
    • Click Start scan
    • It will run rather quickly and will notify you of whether anything is found or not.
    • Follow the instructions to delete/quarantine if asks you what to do when if finds something.
Whether an infection is found or not, a log file should be created on your C: drive ( or whatever drive you boot from) in the root folder named something like TDSSKiller.2.1.1_27.12.2009_14.17.04_log.txt which is based on the program version # and date and time run. Please attach this log to your next reply. (See: HOW TO: Attach Items To Your Post )

Please also download MBRCheck to your desktop

    • Double click MBRCheck.exe to run (vista and Win 7 right click and select Run as Administrator)
    • It will show a Black screen with some data on it
    • Right click on the screen and select > Select All
    • Press Control+C
    • Open a notepad and press Control+V
    • now please ATTACH that report to this thread

Now run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it. Then attach the new C:\MGlogs.zip file that will be created by running this.

Tell me how things are running for you at this point.

    OK, as per your instructions:

    I have already ran Defogger.

    Ran SAS, log is attached.

I am unsure of what you mean by "No site should be placed into your TZ."

    Ran ComboFix, log is attached.

    Ran TDSKiller, log is attached.

Ran MBRCheck, it generated a more informative log, so I am posting that one instead (includes all info I would have obtained by copying and pasting the command prompt window).

And finally, MGLogs.zip is attached in the following reply.

As for how things are running, I was able to update windows. Unknown as to whether or not the redirects are still occurring.

Why? Have you not surfed around to test it?
My apologies, I meant Trusted Zone.

Re-run TDSSKiller and attach the log. Then Re-run Combofix by double clicking on it's icon.

    Then:
Now run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it. Then attach the new C:\MGlogs.zip file that will be created by running this.

    Here are the new logs.

I have removed all sites from my trusted zone.

The redirects were fairly random, but I have not gotten one since your last post, so I'm guessing everything is good now.

    Thanks for your help.

Delete the below file using Windows Explorer:

    c:\windows\system32\config\systemprofile\AppData\Local\Qmukim.bin

If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:
    1. We recommend you keep SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for scanning/removal of malware. Unless you purchase them, they provide no protection. They do not use any significant amount of resources ( except a little disk space ) until you run a scan.
    2. If we had you use ComboFix, uninstall ComboFix (This uninstall will only work as written if you installed ComboFix on your Desktop like we requested.)
      • Click START then RUN and enter the below into the run box and then click OK. Note the quotes are required
      • "%userprofile%\Desktop\combofix" /uninstall
        • Notes: The space between the combofix" and the /uninstall, it must be there.
        • This will uninstall ComboFix and also reset hidden files and folders settings back to Windows defaults.
    3. Go back to step 6 of the READ ME and renable your Disk Emulation software with Defogger if you had disabled it.
    4. Any other miscellaneous tools we may have had you install or download can be uninstalled and deleted.
    5. If we had you download any registry patches like fixme.reg or fixWLK.reg (or any others), you can delete these files now.
    6. If running Vista, it is time to make sure you have reenabled UAC by double clicking on the C:\MGtools\enableUAC.reg file and allowing it to be added to the registry.
    7. Go to add/remove programs and uninstall HijackThis.
    8. Goto the C:\MGtools folder and find the MGclean.bat file. Double click on this file to run this cleanup program that will remove files and folders
related to MGtools and some other items from our cleaning procedures.
    9. If you are running Win 7, Vista, Windows XP or Windows ME, do the below:
      • Refer to the cleaning procedures pointed to by step 7 of the READ ME
for your Window version and see the instructions to Disable System Restore which will flush your Restore Points.
      • Then reboot and Enable System Restore to create a new clean Restore Point.
    10. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:
