unableto login to MGand IE

Did update on both desk and lap yesterday ( win xp-desk:vista-lap) and now I can not log on to MG or The IE. I've tried Logging on to MG thru IE and Firefox. What Happened? The IE won't open at all but the firefox will but I still can't log on to MG.

Ok I know I'm not suppose to double post but I just got home and tried the IE and the MG from my desktop and it(IE) and Firefox are working. that's where I'm writing this from now(desk) I am REALLY confused. I thought maybe my IP was the cause but how could I still have a connection to everything but MG. the IE not starting is what made me think it was the IP's fault. Could the fact that I don't have a whole lot of room because of my pics(which are being transferred to a 4GB jump stick)and the update (to which is giving me problems) have caused it to be delayed in some way? I'm going try my lap to see if it works.

OK the lap is functioning with the exception of not opening the home page when I try to get the IE to open. I can go anywhere on the internet but the set home page refuses to open. Not a biggy I use Firefox any way.
Still puzzled as to why it refused to log on to MG's yesterday?? If anyone has an answer that would be great so I know what to expect if it happens again. Thanks for at least reading this
