Was going to work this morning and this really chessy 70's horror movie was about to come on Starz so i pop in a blank dvd and went to hit record and a message to the tune of copy protection detected recording stopped. I could not believe that i could not record a movie on a satellite provider that i pay for so i could watch it later. Now i've recored House Of A Thousand Corpses before on IFC w/o this Nazi tactical bs. Does this happen all the time on the Starz/Encore channels through DirectTV?
Does dvr need to cables coming through the wall in order for it to work? Direct did the install and said that they would have to drill through the house and fish cable through the walls in order to use dvr. All because i only had one cable outlet behind the tv. Is this bs or for real?

I find this to be incredible and "unbelievable" as well!

I mean who'da thunk the producers would actually be afraid (dare I say: verrry afraid!) that someone would actually steal as well as possibly even "distribute" <shudders> the "House Of A Thousand Corpses?" <lol>

First the "gestapo" over there at the Digital Satellite TV provider DirectTV stopped marketing TiVo powered PVRs a while back and now their denying us our God-Given right to copy "House Of A Thousand Corpses?"
Perhaps they should re-name the company "Mis-Direct TV!" <g> ;)

In the words of our ole' fellow pirate Captain Ahab: "Arrrrrrrggg!"

I don't get it. DVR doesn't require a DVD to record, you just tell it what to record and it does so.

Of course, I've not used DVR through DirecTV, so I could be missing something.

A DVR should hook up just like any other recording device...Cable jack on the wall to the in jack on the tuner box, from the out jack on the tuner box to the in jack on DVR, and from the out jack on the DVR to the in jack on the TV, and being you have satellite then obviously you have to have the satellite tuner plugged into a phone jack. Ofcourse, if you have a sattelite tuner with the DVR built into the same box, then you just hook the incoming line from the satellite to the tuner box, and then go from there to the TV, keeping in mind that some boxes with the DVR built in, might have a jumper cable in the back that connects the incoming satellite to the DVR, then you go out to the TV.

What they are talking about, I have no idea!! If you get the satellite cable run to the TV...it doesn't matter whether you go through the wall or through a window, or through the stupid chimney...as long as the cable gets to the sattlite tuner and the TV...then you can have a DVR!!
