I'm afraid I may have something lurking in my pc.
Recently I had to help someone recover some Outlook Express data files after their OE database got corrupted so I started looking for something to recover data in .dbx files.
I actually purchased two of the products but somewhere along the way my machine started having these "uncoverthenet" popups when I went to certain websites. This happens in IE, Mozilla and also Chrome if i'm not mistaken. A small popup pops up with advertising regarding the website, and now, sometimes it will open a whole new tab and either way it's not necessarily related to the website I've visited. They no longer all say "uncover the net" in the title bar.

I ran the procedures in the malware removal section and am attaching the logs to this post.

    Thanks for you help.

Not finding much in the way of malware. Let's do this:

Double-click RogueKiller.exe to run. (Vista/7 right-click and select Run as Administrator)
When it opens, press the Scan button
Now click the Registry tab and locate these detections:

    • [TASK][SUSP PATH] RGames Updater.job : C:\Users\Bobby\AppData\Local\RivalGaming\Updater.exe -> FOUND
      [TASK][SUSP PATH] RGames Updater : C:\Users\Bobby\AppData\Local\RivalGaming\Updater.exe -> FOUND

Place a checkmark each of these items, leave the others unchecked.
    Now press the Delete button.
When it is finished, there will be a log on your desktop called: RKreport[2].txt
Attach RKreport[2].txt to your next message. (How to attach)
Do not reboot your computer yet.

    Rescan with HitmanPro.
Choose to Delete these files if they are detected:

    • C:\Users\Bobby\AppData\Local\RivalGaming\RivalGaming.dll
      C:\Users\Bobby\AppData\Local\RivalGaming\Uninstaller.exe
      C:\Users\Bobby\AppData\Local\RivalGaming\Updater.exe

    Ignore all other detections.
    Afterwards, click the Next button.
HitmanPro may want to reboot the PC in order for the changes to take affect, please do so.

Now re-scan with both Hitman and RogueKiller and attach the new logs.

Tell me how things are running now.

Well, that may have done it.
I went to homedepot.com, which had always given me popups and it didn't this time.

    Thanks for your help TimW.

Here are the last two scans.

    Good to know.

If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:

    1. We recommend you keep Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for scanning/removal of malware. You can uninstall RogueKiller and HitManPro.
    2. Go back to step 6 oof the READ ME and renable your Disk Emulation software with Defogger if you had disabled it.
    3. Any other miscellaneous tools we may have had you install or download can be uninstalled and deleted.
    4. If running Vista or Win 7, it is time to make sure you have reenabled UAC by double clicking on the C:\MGtools\enableUAC.reg file and allowing it to be added to the registry.
    5. Go to add/remove programs and uninstall HijackThis.
    6. Goto the C:\MGtools folder and find the MGclean.bat file. Double click on this file to run this cleanup program that will remove files and folders
related to MGtools and some other items from our cleaning procedures.
    7. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:

Malware removal from a National Chain = $149
Malware removal from MajorGeeks = $0

I may still have one more issue. I notice in Google if I go to homedepot.com, which has kind of been my test base. When I go there in Chrome I get the popup.
Not too big of a deal, i can live without chrome, or uninstall/reinstall. I'm just wondering if there is something Im missing

    Thanks,

Yes, try uninstalling, reboot, run CCLeaner and then re-install.

Well, it's gone. I did the google uninstall, but I made a quick mouse click to go uninstall, missing the option to "delete browsing data". I ran ccleaner and rebooted.
reinstalled Chrome and still had the problem, so I uinstalled Chrome, making sure to check the box for "delete browsing data", rebooted, reinstalled Chrome and voila, no pop up.

Thanks TimW. You guys at Majorgeeks are the best.

This is my first post @ MG. Is there any thing I need to do to close the thread?
