In my program listing, there is a app called "toolkit" and the exact name for the file in the directory is unhptkit.exe

    Its located under windows/hptk

Does anyone know what this file is? I did a search on the internet but it doesn't give me a clear answer.

Do you use software from HP? :)

None that I can think of. So is this a safe program, what does it link to? Recently I disabled some programs that I thought were unimportant, and I had weird computer freezes. I used iobit's turbo boost to disable seeing other computers on network and file sharing. I also disabled special keyboard short cuts. And after that for some reason my computer would not open up programs and would lock up. But now everythning is normal after bringing all that back. Now just curious about this hptkit.

Yes! Already stated in message number 1. ;)
This HP Toolkit. Look in Add/Remove Programs to see if it is installed.

Its not listed under add/remove programs. Just curious to what this is, if its a normal part of windows. I've been having random issues where the computer decides to not open internet browsers and programs but the start menu works and I have to manually press the power button to get the computer to shutdown. I tried well know system cleaner utilities and that seemed to make things a little worse. After changing msconfig to "normal startup", restoring the registry fixes, and removing the system utility, glary utilities if I remember right, my computer is, so far, running a little better. Malwarebytes and avast don't detect this unhptkit. Usually I can find info about processes on the internet pretty easily, but this one is a little challenging.

No it is not part of Windows. It is a part of Hewlett Packard's software which you must have had installed from something at one time.

Yes which is one of many reasons we don't recommend using them. ;)

Why would they since it is not considered malware.

I suggest that you run the MGtools program per the instructions in the below link and attach the requested MGlogs.zip file so we can see more of what is going on within your PC.

    Using MGtools

If anything suspicious shows in the above, I will then send you to our full malware cleaning process.
