    Hello

I am attempting to fix a friends laptop which is unable to connect to the network. in Network and sharing centre it says "unidentified network (Public network)" where is should show the "name of the network (home network)". I am told the problems started about a week ago when they downloaded Norton as theirs had expired, however this "Norton" is no longer on the laptop, apparently it was downloaded via an email received from Norton but the email has been deleted so I have been unable to determine weather it was legit or not.

Initially I was unable to run any exe at all, even if I had renamed the the exe file. I ran the Kaspersky rescue USB disk on boot up which located some viruses and seemed to fix my exe problem so I have run through your guide for windows vista and attached the log files as requested. HitmanPro did not come up with anything but I have attached the logs anyway.

Another thing I have noticed is windows is detecting a lot of unsecured wireless networks which I know for a fact aren't there.

Any help you provide would be much appreciated! Fantastic service you provide here by the way!

    Hello Blunda,

Your logs are clean. Most likely this is a software related issue.

http://img850.imageshack.us/img850/4746/programsandfeatureswin7.gif From Programs and Features (via Control Panel), please uninstall the below:
    • avast! Free Antivirus
    • ParetoLogic DriverCure
    • Symantec Real Time Storage Protection Component
    • Symantec Technical Support Controls
    • Norton 360
    • Norton 360 HTMLHelp
    • Norton 360 (Symantec Corporation)

    __

Afterwards, download and run both of these utilities.

    __

Reboot once more after all of the above has been completed and test for internet connectivity.

    You're welcome ;)

Install only one antivirus as you have experienced first hand, having many of them can lead to issues such as internet loss.
I use Microsoft Security Esssentials which is free but to each his own ;)
