We just got off a dial-up connection and have a HughesNet satelite.

We have always used Outlook Express for our major emails and would like to continue this. I called Hughes and the tech there gave me instructions as to how to uninstall OE, saying I would then have to get that program again and install it. However, when I started following those instructions, there were obviously missing parts because nothing fit. I could not even find Outlook Express in my Control Add/Remove folder.

We are using Windows XP. Can someone guide me in this endeavor please?

When you go to Control Panel | Add/Remove Programs, Outlook Express is on the left side under Add/Remove Windows Components. You uninstall it from there, and you reinstall it from there.

    Hi,

Uninstall Outlook Express by following these Steps:

    • Log in to an administrator account. Then navigate to the "Start" menu and select the "Control Panel." Click "Add or Remove Programs." The "Add or Remove Programs" dialog appears.
    • From the left pane, click the "Add/remove Windows components" button.
    • Scroll down the list until you locate Outlook Express. Uncheck the box next to Outlook Express. Click "Next" and "Finish." Restart your computer. Outlook Express is disabled.

This is sheer nonsense. Whoever told you this is incompetent.

When you called Hughes, was your intent to use an email address from HughesNet? I see no info on their website about setting up an email address in any email program.

Here's what I'd do. Forget about using a HughesNet email address. Get an email provider such as https://www.fastmail.fm/ or http://www.gmx.com/. They provide you an email address that you can use regardless of who you use for your Internet access. Just use HughesNet for your Internet connection; don't expect anything more from them. Of course, you can also use one of the free popular services such as Yahoo! Mail or Google's gmail but, for business use, I'd choose FastMail or GMX or possibly gmail.

Goodness, I feel so stupid. After I had called HughesNet, I called my computer repair man and he told me Outlook Express could NOT be uninstalled.

When I went to control panel > add/remove programs, there is NO LISTING for Outlook Express at all. (It IS in my "programs", i.e. click START > programs > Outlook Express; however, there is no "uninstall" option there.)

OE is part of Windows XP.
When you go to Add/Remove Programs then click on Windows Components in the left pane, it will be listed under windows components.
You can remove the entry from the start menu BUT you can't uninstall it.

Even if it could be uninstalled, there would be no reason to do that to get a new email working in it. To add a new account, you need to go through the procedure for adding a new account to OE.

Do you know, for a fact, that HughesNet provides email accounts in the format of you@hughesnet.net or something similar that is, indeed, a HughesNet email account. I saw NOTHING on their website regarding email.

Did you read the two posts that provide instructions how to uninstall Outlook Express?

But as usafveteran writes, un/reinstalling OE will not fix your problem; you have to change the account settings in OE.
