While cleaning up my computer, got distracted by kids and uninstalled Realtek Audio.
My computer is a HP Pavilion Model number: m9517c with Software Build: 91NAv6PrA1, using Windows Vista.
Obviously I am not a "computer person" or I would have been able to figure out how to get it back myself. I went to the Realtek website and just confused as to what I am supposed to do.
    Any help? Anyone? Please!
    Thank you.

    read the Installation Instruction carefully

    1. Click the Download Only button.
    2. At the File Download screen, click the Save button.
    3. At the Save As screen, save the file to your Desktop.
    4. If a message appears stating that the file already exists, click YES to overwrite file.
    5. Double-click the icon for the update downloaded to your desktop, and then click NEXT.
    6. Follow on-screen instructions.
    7. If prompted to restart the system upon completion of the update, click YES and allow system to restart.

OH! I was to hopeful this was going to work. I followed the instructions exactly.
I got the message: "your system does not meet minimum requirements for this update. Update has been cancelled. (9997).
By chance do you have any other suggestions?
Thank you so much for trying to help me.

My suggestion would be to use System Restore, to put back what you uninstalled.

Go with the most recent date BEFORE you were distracted by "rugrats".

    Been there, done that...

I did try that before coming onto here. That didn't work for me. I went to a date from a month before.
Like I said, I am not a "computer person" other than the basics so I am always afraid I will delete an "important" file.
Thank you for the suggestion. I can at least try it again, right?
BTW, I call mine "monkeys"- :)

In that case, the next course of action would be to visit HP's website, download, and install the audio drivers.

Do you know how to use Device Manager?

You may want to uninstall the audio device, and reboot before you visit HP. This will trigger Windows to install the drivers upon reboot. USUALLY.

    "Monkeys"! That's a funny one!

Do I know how to use Device Manager?
Well of course I...... no. wait. Yeah, that answer is unfortunately a big fat "No." LOL! Or, maybe I should be SMH in much shame.
Ok, going to the HP website.
Thank you still trying to help me fix my "monkey" flub. :)

Ok. So, now when I check in "Device Manager" it shows that Realtek is installed and working properly.
    However, NO SOUND.
    Now what do I do?

Check your volume control by hovering on the speaker icon bottom right, should be %100. Also on the bottom right there's an upward pointing arrow, hover on that and choose the Realtek icon when it appears. I hope it's that simple.;)

And, but of course it was not that simple. :-(
The volume is up, shows that I am using Realtek.
    Nothing.
Thank you for trying to help me. Any other suggestions besides smashing this PC against the wall?
