A while ago I split my D drive in to two sections so that i could install linux on one section and have a dual boot type deal. I haven't used it much lately and decided to try and delete linux and merge those two sections of the D drive back together. I used partition magic, and tried to do some research but could not find much help. So in partition magic i used the configure task to configure the linux section into NTFS to match the other part of the D drive, then i figured i'd just merge the 2. well the computer rebooted and said it configured it, but now when it boots up i get the black screen with just the "grub>" prompt and no idea what to do. I can easily admit i had no idea what i was doing and still don't and in my impatience thought i could figure it out. I'm very sorry for bothering with this, but if i can get any help i'd greatly appreciate it. thanks. Im running a sony vaio desktop with windows xp sp2

You need something to tell the OS which to load... I think.

You should have 2 main partitions, NTFS and Linux. One for Windows, one for Linux and a boot manager to configure auto load or to select one to boot. Hope it helps.

If you gave up, then convert all partitions to ntfs, then merge them and install Windows.
