Unintended Consequences: Altered Menus\Pop-up boxes

Not sure what caused this one, could have been the result of a tweak, or one of the Registry Cleaner Programs I was road testing, but I belatedly noticed that some Program-specific pop-up boxes are suddenly larger than they should be, have blockier, bold text, different fonts, may be missing some functional aspects (such as scrollbars) and their images may not be correctly sized to the pop-up box.

eg: WinRAR "Extract to" box, larger than normal & no scrollbar to aid in hunting for the correct location to put the file you're unzipping to; so as you expand the file system, it's pot luck to find the right place since you can't read the folder names as they expand because the field of view box doesn't auto-size to show the choice. (Follow that? Clever chap!)

eg: Installing Firefox, the initial "Press Next to Continue" setup boxes had the image incorrectly placed -too large- and it wasn't easy to see where I was installing to.

I've also noticed several other similar effects. See attatchments for a few examples.

It's as if, by using a Reg Cleaner Prog, I got rid of a necessary file, or it's a by product of a tweak I tried. Although these are just irritants I want to understand what happened & fix it in case it has more serious consequences.

Of course I tried several Registry & Tweak Progs before I noticed this had happened, so can't tell which caused it.

This probably sounds like complete blather to most of you, but I'm hoping someone's come across it before & knows what it is

HI, Many Reg clean. have means to restore the deletions they make so you could get back that way or do a system restore if you use it.

I find Norton's Goback a very handy program when I am testing programs.

Yes, I should have used the prog's themselves to return my system to it's previous state, but I was a right wally & didn't, so now I'm screwed.

About GoBack, which I have got, but haven't Installed , is it possibly to use it when I'm using XP Pro with it's System Restore on NTFS?

System Restore doesn't seem to be as good as GoBack; It doesn't make as many restore points as GoBack, over which you also have better, fine control.

You can use both but Goback has to at least be disabled before sytem restore will perform a restore.

Goback ignores sytem restore. The only probrlem with Goback is that it only allows restoration over a small time frame. ie you mess up today and you can restor to beginning of today or maybe yesterday. You can't trust it will have a restore point later that a couple of days but it is so easy to use.
