Unknown codec, I think

Hello, running Windows XP SP2 and WMP. I recently downloaded an avi file, but when I try to open it I get the following:

What is this trying to tell me, am I missing a codec? I have K-lite codec pack installed.

 

uninstall k-lite as best you can, and then install FFDSHOW. Its a simple codec pack with DivX, XviD, and wmv, and it should be all you need.

 

uninstall of K-lite went fine, install of FDDshow was successful. WMP11 still said it couldnot open due to missing codec. So I downloaded a coy of WMP classic and it did open and play. I used G Spot to take a look and it tole me the avi was an XVID and the codec was installed, but I also noticed that there was a red highlight that indicated the file had been truncated. It appeared that perhaps the last 2MB of a 700MB file was missing. I used the slider, ran it to the end and sure enough, the film stopped before the credits rolled.

I guess the only issue I have left that I can fix is why WMP11 will not play it when WMP Classic will and I inow the codec is installed.
