Can someone please tell me if they recognise the icon in the attached image? It pops up quite often on my Taskbar. But, before I can point my cursor at it or click on it the icon has gone. It popped up a few minutes ago and I quickly pressed Print Screen, which luckily captured an image of it.

I have no idea what it is linked to or why it pops up. As far as I can tell it does so randomly and not when I’m doing anything specifically.

I provide the following info in case it may be required –

    Computer: Acer Aspire XC-840 1.0

    Unrecognised_icon.jpg Operating System: Windows 11 Home (x64)

If you can manage to right click, select Pin to Taskbar.
Then open File Explorer and paste this into the box at the top
    Code:
    %AppData%\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Quick Launch\User Pinned\TaskBar
This will show you everything that is pinned to your taskbar so you should be able to see the unknown item.

I tried searching by the image, using these two sites but wasn't successful, probably because it is so small

I'm not sure I understand your first sentence. I right clicked on the Taskbar and only two options are on the menu that pops up: 'Task Manager' and 'Taskbar settings'. I clicked on the latter option and it took me to Settings > Personalisation > Taskbar but there is no option, "Pin to Taskbar".

I opened File Explorer and pasted your quoted line but the icon in question was not one of those that were there. It popped up again whilst I was doing this and I quickly moved my cursor to it but it went before I got to it.

I know the image is small. I do have it saved as a .jpeg file. Is there a way to enlarge it? I tried doing that when I copied the screen print into Paint but could not.

I tried searching at both of the links you provide. Not very fruitful is it?o_O

You don't right click on the taskbar. You right click on the "unknown icon", if you can.

I can’t click on the “unknown icon” because it’s never there long enough. It appears and by the time I get the cursor there it’s gone.

    Good detective work evilfantasy!
We own two Acers and if I had this, I stopped it from running. I don't see anything like that icon.

I used msconfig, looked under the Services tab and see I have GREGService stopped. GREG stands for Global Registration Service.

I just searched Acer in the Windows store app and it was the very first result.
