For about the last 6 months or so around 6:00 pm everyday, the computer hard drive starts running like there is a process running or download taking place. The problem is that it basically hogs all my resources for about 20-30 minutes whereby I cant do anything in my existing application or toggle to another application. I tried to bring up the task manager, but that too wont load up until whatever is running completes and gives back enough resources for it to load. I have a Dell Latitude D620 laptop.

I should also add that I regularly run ccleaner, I have McAfee AV, Zone Alarm firewall, and windows defender which I regularly run a scans.

Any idea how I can find out what is going on and then to stop it. Thanks.

Start Process Explorer before 6pm http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb896653.aspx
it should show you exactly what kicks in at 6pm and uses all the CPU.

Also, try disconnecting from the internet before 6pm a few days and see of the same thing occurs. (I'm trying to isolate if something is downloading or something is going on internally like a system scan).

Are you sure it's not the McAfee running a system scan??
