Unusual computer issue, reboot fixed but worried more is there.

    I have Vista and all the latest updates to my knowledge. Running IE.

    All of the sudden my computer wouldn't load a browser, so I ran Hijack this and it said it couldn't access the Hosts file. So I checked the hosts file and it had this line in it:

    ::1 localhost

    so I thought that was the problem. But I didn't have administrator privs for some unknown reason. I tried relogging in as admin but that didn't help. I ran notepad as admin and changed hosts back to basic and that was fine but the browser still failed.

    My control panel also died completely.

    So I finally just rebooted and everything seems okay for now but I'm worried something is here.

    Here is my Hijack this file (note that when I run Hijack This even after reboot and fixing host, I think, it still says that Hijack this can not access the Hosts file -- I ran as administator as it suggested and that worked fine but why do I not have administrator already on some of these things?).

    Welcome to Majorgeeks!

    As you likely already know is that malware is a massive pest these days and does its level best to hide itself in any number of places, So just a Hijackthis log will not show all the malware that can be on your PC, the full guide of our steps below has a few other logs that show alot of the malware on your PC and where they are located,

    Please follow the instructions in the below link and attach the requested logs when you finish these instructions.

    • If something does not run, write down the info to explain to us later but keep on going.
    • Do not assume that because one step does not work that they all will not.
    Notes:

    1. If you run into problems trying to run theREAD & RUN ME or any of the scans in normal boot mode. You can running steps in safe boot mode but make sure you tell us what you did later when you post logs. See the below if you do not know how to boot in safe mode:
    2. If you have problems downloading on the problem PC, download the tools on another PC and burn to a CD. Then copy them to the problem PC. You will have to skip getting updates if (and only if) your internet connection does not work. Yes you could use a flash drive too but flash drives are writeable and infections can spread to them.

    plus a guide on how to attach the logs HOW TO: Attach Items To Your Post
