    Hi,

My free Avast Antivirus is telling me that I have 25 gb unwanted system files and 566 broken elements in my register database. And that I have 24 programs which cause my computer to work slower.

Any suggestions as to how I solve this?

Avast suggests that I just press a button in the program and then it will solve all the problems. But I don't want to do that, for I won't have any control over it or any knowledge of what has happened, if it goes wrong.

    Kind regards

    Nicoline

    Thanks for the reply:)

There are no browser threats, no infections.

I can't find a way to limit what Avast scans. I have looked at the options, but I can't figure out, what would be useful.

Isn't there a safe program to scan, find and remove the unwanted system files and broken elements in the register database?

    NO!
Things that claim to "fix" your registry often do more harm than good so I avoid them.

I'd never let anything remove system files! That is asking for an unbootable computer.

If you wish to remove a program safely, with all its registry components, I suggest you install and use RevoUninstaller free.

It first runs the program uninstaller, then it looks over the database.
It presents you with a list of items that it will safely remove because that program puts those things in the registry. You only ever select items in bold and if you aren't sure, don't select the item(s). Click delete and it removes them.

Thanks for the answer:) Well, I know RevoUninstaller. I suppose I will just leave the computer as it is.:)
