Hi, hope someone can help - now I'm on the Malware forum......

I've been ploughing through the Malware Removal guide all afternoon. Got to (5) Counterspy and everything slowed when trying to download the latest definitions. Then the screen froze. Then on restart, safe mode wouldn't work, got stuck after a long list of files, and then, after a power down, and restart I got the dreaded blue 'stop error screen'
which meant a new hard drive last time it happened

Also, any reason why some of these programs have taken so long to download this afternoon, down to a few Kb speed on my broadband

    Any suggestions?
Is this the malware playing up, or a hardware problem?

It could be the servers getting bogged down, it could be your ISP getting bogged down or several more things causing the slowness.

Also, not every blue screen error is hardware related, they can be anything. The error number and message explains what generates the error.

If you can't get CounterSpy to run, skip it and run AVG AntiMalware if your running WinXP.

OK, I'd like to remove Counterspy, but can't get past the blue screen:
    *** STOP: 0x00000024 (0x00190203,0x823DA940,0xC0000102,0x00000000)
(am using another PC to communicate here...)

Can't get into Safe Mode either

    Any solutions???

    Still no replies ...

Can't find any threads on this blue screen problem, but Google showed up a freebie download, Regcure,
    any feedback on this one?
Problem is, I can't seem to get the laptop to go any further than the bsod. Safe mode freezes, and last known config, and Start Windows normally just generate the bsod message

How can I delete the Counterspy software? Can I get to the DOS screen and if so, a) how, and b) what do I have to do to delete the file?

    Your help is much appreciated

Usually that BSOD is related to the File System, I would recommend posting this in the Software Forum. Once you're able to successfully login to Windows with no errors/problems then if needed come back here.
