as I recall, a couple of weeks ago hundreds of thousands of illegal aliens clogged the streets of several cities around the country for hours. Not to worry, los angeles has started the big crackdown.
tuesday, an 82 year old woman trying to cross a street here was given a $114.00 citation by an ever vigilant motorcycle officer for obstructing the flow of traffic. She could not get accross the intersection before her green light turned red. It's about time!!!!!!!!!!!
thursday: the mayor of los angeles will raise the trash pickup rates to pay for another 1000 policeman here that are desperately needed. no doubt they will start hunting down all these slow old people that are causing such mayhem in our cities. Is this a great country or what?

    LOL. Or what.

Police and INS have been missing golden opportunities for rounding up illegals painlessly. When they come out of the woodwork and congregate, barricade exits and round them up en-masse. But nobody really wants to.

my hubby is an illigal alien.

so here is the reality of that situation. i am an american by birth. not only, but also by birthright. my father, his father, his father's father, etc. right back to the original settlers were born and bred texan. my father spent 21 yrs serving the us airforce. my mother was an english, cockney, bottle blond..and he was a US airforce officer..

four children later she devorced him and returned to england. i was educated in england, i married in england, and my children were born in england. during a separation with my hubby, i returned to the states, and fell in love with hawaii. he has then followed me here. zoe has a ten yr, automatically renewable green card. she was awarded that after $1,000 in fees and proceedures, and a glowing letter of employment saying the owner could not run his business without her, not because she is my daughter as she was just over 18 at the time. she now owns property on the island, has open offers of employment, and of course all her immediate family is here. she is currently in the process of applying for citizanship, but is having tremendous difficulties co-ordinating this with her studies in england.
jacob was made a citizan only after another $1,000 , including Aid's testing (he was THREE), confirmation of my fathers military service, and intervention from texas immigration to honolulu.
my hubby (poor thing) is still english. we have now sought advice from attorneys and have retained a lawer. we need a 'sponser' who makes more than $25,000 p.a., per person, for at least the last three years.
most of out friends are poorer than this. i cannot 'sponser' him as my involvement in an auto accident has left me vertually unimployable. he is not able to work legally, but of course he does work, he is simply unable to pay tax!! although he also has offers of employment, and letters of recomendation, without a qualified sponser he cannot apply for a card. we have lived here for nearly 11 yrs now, my son attends one of the few hawaiian emersion schools, and was brought up on these islands. we have built a new life here, yet dispite all this, dispite the fact we are decent honorable people, my family could be ripped apart at any time, and my husband of 26 yrs, the father of my adolecent son who needs him more now than he ever did, could be forced to return to england.

just so you all know....not every 'illegal' is mexican.

    Easier said than done.

I'd love to see the authorities trying to process tens of thousands of them.

Even if they were successful, they do a lot of the work Americans won't.

Whether you like it or not, you and the country as a whole benefit from it.

the whole immigration discussion comes across that way. i am sure that GT would not have used the phraseology that he did if he thought he was talking about the english. (too many UKers on MG if for no other reason)
