Thanks Carol, and like the many others on this site I send you and all of Gary's Family our heartfelt condolences. Through this tragedy both you and Aaron, have become like friends to all of us, and we hope with time you will come back and keep in touch.

I must say that I am glad that Gary's pain is now gone, and that his biggest wish was realized (his Grandson being born before his passing). I am certain that that filled his last moments with great pride and happiness.

After having some time to absorb the news, I wanted to post one more response. The funny thing is that usually, people come to me and ask me to write something for them to say, be it a dinner, contest or other public arena. I've never had a problem putting words to paper, but when something like this happens, I can never really think of something to say that doesn't sound trite and cliche.

That being said, please bear with my poor attempt to quantify human emotion.

Gary was a man in the truest sense of the word, he took responisbility and was always willing to help out others. By the same token, he wasn;t afraid to put his foot down either. He would have a good time, but also knew when to be serious. I know that many of you see this screen name and wonder, but before I took the time to grow up, I was here all the time and Gary took the time to not only answer my questions, but to nicely put me in my place on those occasions I stepped out of it. Some people may think that I would harbour hard feelings about this, but I know that he did not do it out of any reason other than responsibility and being an adult. I have nothing but respect for Gary and the person he was, is and always will be in our memories, He was a friend, confidante and technical advisor to the majority of the baord, and he will be sorely missed.

As to his passing, Gary was blessed in having his family there by his side and having the chance to say goodbye to the people he knew and loved. THat is a lot more than many people get, and I believe that it truly showed how m,uch he has given to others over the years. He had the chance to hear our goodbyes, as well as know that he has a new grandchild who will know him, not only through family, but through his friends as well. He passed quietly and peacefully, by all accounts, into the next great adventure and I am sure that when we arrive there, we will find him waiting to give us that advice and put us back in line when we need it.

Good rest and Godspeed Gary, you will truly be missed.

    Jim

(I know it is wordy, but as I can not give much else, I wanted to contribute with what I can)

Gary - you're home now, safe and no longer in pain. You touched many lives while you were here, and you will go on touching those lives while they are here on earth. You were a remarkable human being and you will be missed greatly for all the joy, knowledge and beauty you brought to this world, and particularly MGs. Rest in peace friend :) We will miss you terribly.

My Sincere Sympathy to all of Gary's family. Carol how courageous you have been dealing with everything yet taking time to keep all here informed as to his progress. How wonderful he was reunited with his son perhaps that was his tether to earth. He probably is visiting his new grandson now.
    God Bless

I'm glad to know that Gary is no longer in pain; he has gone on to be with God. The tears are always for our loss and what a loss it is for his friends and family, but we can honor Gary by doing our best to pass on wisdom and caring like he always did. I don't know what else to say.

    Dear Gary,
Godspeed my dear friend, it was a pleasure meeting you, getting to know you and most of all to call you friend. You will always be remembered.
    Love
    Susan.

Do not stand at my grave and weep.

Do not stand at my grave and weep,
I am not there, I do not sleep.

I am a thousand winds that blow.
I am the diamond glint on snow.
I am the sunlight on ripened grain.
I am the gentle autumn rain.

When you wake in the morning hush,
I am the swift, uplifting rush
Of quiet birds in circling flight.
I am the soft starlight at night.

Do not stand at my grave and weep.
I am not there, I do not sleep.
Do not stand at my grave and cry.
I am not there, I did not die!

I'm not sure that Gary would have wanted to be serenaded with a long, drawn out "we'll miss you" novel. Somehow, I think he'd want a nice simple geeky send off.

So Gary, Make sure there's enough RJ45 ports open for the rest of us when we get there because it's going to be on hell of a LAN party!!:major

I dedicate this song to Gary~ You will be missed:

Hear part of it here (Song #2, press the "arrow")

    One Hell Of A Life

Lay me down in a wooded field
Plant a bush above my head
    Lay me, lay me down
Don't go writing on my grave
I'll have it said it all before the end
    Lay me, lay me down

And when I'm dead, please don't philosophize
    Or feel regret
Just remember me when I said
I had one hell of a life
    One hell of a life
I had one hell of a life

Throw my ashes to the wind
Watch them blow into the sea
    Throw me, throw me in
You can cry up there on the cliff
Scream to heaven, work your grief
But throw me, throw me in

    And when I'm dead...

    Fear and guilt accumulate
And the time's never right to deal with it
    Maybe, maybe now
You can live your life in an endless wait
Or build it high on the present tense
    Maybe, maybe now

    And when you're dead...

    Build it high on serendipity
    Build it higher on serendipity
    And when we're all dead
    They won't philosophize
    Or feel regret
They'll remember us when we said
We had one hell of a life

That's pretty much where I am. I count myself among the truly fortunate to have actually met and spent some time with Gary in person. And I can't seem to stop crying.

I wish I could be there to send him off ('twas my plan to drive down, but work is interfering with that), but since I can't, I'll just have to pour my heart and soul into knowing whatever adventure is next, Gary's gonna be there with bells on. He's definitely one of a kind, and we are all richer for having known him. The world is now missing one of the good ones.

Tears welled up in my eyes as I read post 94 from the front page. I'm disappointed that it took three days for me to be aware of Gary's passing. I usually check in here daily. Unlike many of you I never met him, I would have liked to. He always had a common sense approach to all posts, even when responding to the wildest rants, not to mention he knew everything about everything and has (not a typo) an excellent sense of humour.
I don't know if there is a heaven or afterlife, but I'm sure that wherever Gary is, he'll figure out away to let us know about it.

    A toast...to G.T.
