I been busy these past few weeks going back and forth to Savannah and spending time with the Girlfriend and Last nite when i was taking her home 70miles from my house the Trans-Am broke a Push Rod so i had my GF's dad meet us and pick her up and i babied the Trans-Am home. Right outside of town it backfired so bad it blew the muffler apart LoL I spent most of my day fixing it. I had to pull the intake off and reinsert the lifter and put in a new push rod and now its all back together just have to make some minor adjustments to timing and rocker.

I still can't believe it drove 70miles with a broken push rod!

The muffler blew apart because the piston with the broken pushrod was just sending unburnt gas into the system and it finally ignited.
Glad you got it home OK.
Be sure to drain the oil from the motor and strain it (steal your GFs panty hose) just in case a small piece of the pushrod fell into the sump (oilpan).

A small tip when you finally re-build it try to get a magnetic plug for the oil pan,you would be amazed at how much it picks up.

Wow, that looks like work! I don't do much on my truck anymore. Reminds me I do need to tighten the A/C belt... :cool

Glad you were able to do the work yourself, that would have been some $$ in a shop!

Just a small update i got it back running but while i had it running with the valve cover off i took note that two Exhaust valves are not opening so i need a new camshaft so now i got to replace the Camshaft, Timing chain, intake gaskets, timing cover seal, Lifters, and pushrods. Anyone care to donate to the rebuild fund? lol;) with all the discounts i get at Advance the total cost for everything will be around $150

From what i can see it's clean enough inside and nice an easy to work on while it's on the bench.
