I only use malwarebytes free, and windows defender. MWB is up to date, WD showed a clear scan.

The PC is a windows 7 update I did myself, I've had no problem since I upgraded it.

Have a read HERE. Scroll down to the repair procedure. No guarantee it will work but it shouldn't cause any harm if it it doesn't.

Are you a small or medium sized business? Did you pay for a year of updates?

Why are you trying to install the July and August 2020 updates for Windows 10 onto a Windows 7 computer?

    "Win 7 update" = Win 10. KB4565351 is this month's Win 10 cumulative update.

I'm just a home user. Do you have to disable this proxy internet connection every time you update ? Since I upgraded the PC from windows 7 to windows 10 this is the first time I have had an update problem.

KB4565351 got to about 25% install then failed. The trouble is that while I am more clued up than my friends, this sort of thing is stretching my expertise. I'm not sure what I'm doing so I can't imagine how they and other people get round problems like this, they wouldn't know where to start.

It's not really good enough, can't you complain to microsoft, why don't they get their act together, if KB4565351 is the repair of an earlier problem then why is that one also failing ???

What about this link, is it worth trying this, as well as the link Earthling gave.

    https://www.howtoedge.com/kb4565351-windows-10-1903-build-18362-1016-1909-build-18363-1016/

The windows security download in my security settings also says that the new version of windows 10, version 2004, is available and should be downloaded after update 5351. Is this going to fail too, or is the new version of windows 10 a new baseline, even for an upgraded PC that was once windows 7 ?

Hope it works for you. As for version 2004, if you are on Win 10 Home, you won't be able to defer it. If you are on Pro it can be deferred for up to a year, which is where I'm at presently. 1909 is perfect for me.

Thanks, I'm on Windows 10 home ( presume so as I was on Windows 7 Home) so I'm hoping it will solve this problem :)
