update question

I want to check my computer and update my programs, I have media player 8 and sp1 and stuff like that but when I go to microsoft and do the update check it tells me I am up to date I know Im not is there a way I can update all programs and security

win xp pro
320 mbs of memory
80 gb hard drive
pent. 3 / 597mhz
