How do you update the BIOS of a PC? On installing XP Home I get "Missing NTDLR" on first reboot. I am sure its a BIOS issue, because this started after installing a second HD.

    - Thanks

I wonder if your drives are NTFS and the floppy you are booting from probably is trying to see the C: drive and cant, not uncommon. Does the company you need the BIOS update for either

    Allow updating BIOS from Windows?
Allow you to create an automated floppy with BIOS files on it?

Actually it had XP Home on it, upgraded from 98SE, I wanted to Repair and Detect after system restore failed to solve a problem I had. I ran the XP disc and it ran a full install on it (I selected the wrong option). Now on first reboot it gives me that. My file are NTFS.

Upgrading from 98 is not suggested, even by Microsoft. XP should be installed clean. One reason, which is obvious now, is trying to track down or repair any problems. Follow Halos thread above to fix and if that does not work, reformat the drive and install XP clean.

To add to MAs post I would also delete the partition as well then rebuild the partition and format but use full format NOT quick format....

A clean install is always the best way IMO

A BIOS update will not solve your problem. NTLDR is a file that resides in the root directory of your primary active partition (C:) it along with ntdetect.com, bootsect.dos, and Boot.ini are hidden system files that are used to boot Win XP.

When you added the new drive did you add it as master or slave?

If the new drive is master switch it to slave.

These files must be in the root directory of the first partition of the first hard drive even if Win XP is on a different partition and they are the only files in C:

Drives were working perfectly. New drive is a slave to the old one. I have formated the C drive and tried fresh install of XP. Still get the error message.
