So I made another thread a few days ago about speeding up my laptop. I got a a lot of help and now that I have stripped a lot of the crap away I would like to know what people think of my process list. I imagine that there are alternative programs that run on less memory and maybe run as a consolidated program doing multiple things rather than being spreed out. Does anyone have any recommendations for me? I don't even know if I have the right idea about how to speed up my computer. Edit:I run on Vista and have gone through some of the useful posts about how to do that with Viper already"

I have CCleaner that has a drive wiper and it has options like(for wiping free space)...
    simple overwrite(1 pass)
    DOD 5220.22-m(3 passes)
    NSA (7 passes)
    Gutmann(35 passes)

Is that even useful? And would defragging help?:confused

CCleaner's drive wiper is to overwrite stuff you deleted from your PC that Windows hasn't overwritten with new data. It won't do much to speed up things. It's main purpose is to destroy information one deos not want to get into the wrong hands, like incriminating photos and financial information.

Defragmenting may help you some. Try it and see.
Here's some info on the built in defragmenter for Vista:

Here are some other choices if Vista's defragmenter falls short for you:

There is a point where you will be drawing the maximum performance from your PC's hardware and the only way to pass that bottleneck will be to get better hardware.

TeaTimer can be a hog. I've seen lots of advice not to turn it on. Note: I haven't run Spybot Search&Destroy in a long time so this is not based on my personal experience.
RealPlayer does not need to run at startup. If I have it on a computer, I always kill it from running at startup. Things that need RealPlayer will still work; it just launches as needed. Also stop Real from checking for updates...realsched.exe
I also see if you AVG. Because of recent problems, that is no longer recommended by MajorGeeks. You might want to replace it (assuming you are running the free version) with either AntiVir or Avast.

I also remove Java scheduler from running at startup. But I'm pretty good about reading when it is updated and do it manually. If you don't have the time, keep it running at startup.
