So my virus definitions have expired, i have an older version of norton, not sure which one i have. but im trying to decide if i should upgrade it. i have heard lots of good things about the newer norton. but i have also heard Avg is good... Just not sure which way i should go..

I want something to just run in the back ground with the least amount of work on my part..

I recently had to remove some trojans and other malware using the steps on this site... which worked by the way (THANKS) But i would like something that will help in keeping them off.. i still have Ccleaner, Malwarebytes, and superantispyware installed and will run them frequently.

What do i still need to keep my computer running smoothly?

    Thanks,
    Starlette

I personally got rid of norton and switched to avast years ago.
Works good for me. I can also recommend spywareblaster to you

Some say Avast has a lot of false positives, I use AVG 8.5 free, along with most of the programs you mentioned.. I also use Windowz defender.
Be sure to google up the Norton removal tool, it doesnt uninstall completely via the normal method.

If you decide you don't want Norton, click on the link below as it is Norton's Removal Tool. Reboot at least once (twice) after using it.

I use AVG 8.5 free. If you decide to install it use "Custom" install and opt out of the Toolbar and Linkscanner. Then set up your schedules for scanning and updates and forget it. http://www.majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=886

While many AV's produce false positives such as Avast, Avira, AVG and such, I found that AVG hasn't given me any FP todate. Here's a link from AV-Comparatives if interested. You'll need to download the latest report in PDF. http://www.av-comparatives.org/comparativesreviews/main-tests

My vote also for SpywareBlaster. It prevents Active X and spyware from installing.

My very biased opinion, the three free AV mentioned Avast, AVG, and Avira, do a much better job of protecting you than Norton. You will be happy with any of the three and save money in the process.

I also recommend you download malwarebytes. The free version (says trial but it never expires) doesn't offer real time protection nor auto updating but it is worth having.
