Upgrade XPMCE to XP Pro (???)

Will XPMCE upgrade to XP Pro with an upgrade install disc safely with no data loss? Supposedly, the music program 'ProTools LE' will NOT run on XPMCE, and must be run on either XP Home or XP Pro... therefore, the upgrade from XPMCE to XP Pro is needed.... any ideas or input or advice will be GREATLY appreciated!

I have no first hand experience with MCE; however, others have reported that, after installing MCE, they can actually switch between MCE and PRO by doing the following:
Go to Start > Control Panel > System > Advanced Tab > Startup and Recovery Settings Button > Select System Startup/Default Operating System (alternate between MCE and PRO as required). Again, I have no experience in this area but it makes sense because MCE is actually XP Pro with a Media Center added (minus the ability to connect to a domain). Check it out and please let us know.

 

So, essentially what you're saying is to change the boot.ini file... change it from Windows XP Media Center Edition to Windows XP Professional? Somehow, I don't think that's gonna do it.... I guess I can try though....

 

Surprisingly, it worked.... well, it booted. I changed the boot.ini file to load XP Pro instead of XPMCE, and the PC loaded successfully to the desktop. But is it really XP Pro? System Properties still says it's XPMCE.... Luckily it didn't take too olong or waste any time or mess anything up... I think I'll just back up the important data, and try a safe upgrade from an XPPro upgrade CD. I think it'll work....
