Hey everyone. I'm trying to upgrade my HP Pavilion 6535 with it's motherboard, a trigem cognac+ (socket 370) running at 465 mhz. I'm going to upgrade the CPU to run at 1 ghz or more. Now here's the story:

First I went and bought a 1.0 ghz processer and a Lin Lin adapter knowing that I needed it to run on my old socket 370. So after playing with the jumper settings and upgrading the BIOS I got it to work for about 15 minutes and it crashed. There was a smell coming out of the comp also. I figured that since I never got a new power supply, It wasn't strong enough to support the processer. So to make sure I went to buy a new cooling fan and power supply. This time the computer won't start at all with the 1 ghz CPU. Same jumper settings and all. I pop in the old 465 mhz CPU and it works like a charm. Great, I thought. Maybe something fried because the cooling and power wasn't enough the first time. So then I decided to start fresh. Bought a new Lin Lin and 1.2 ghz CPU. I try jumper settings on the lin lin box, one that worked for me last time, and even one from a site I found. But no luck. I'm stumped and if someone can give me a step-by-step solution to all of this it would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks.

You might check with the mother board manufacturer to see if this processor is supported. I'm actually surprised that you got the first processor to work at all, and not surprised that the second one didn't. Chances are that the bios doesn't support this processor's clock speed, among other things. If your old processor still works, leave well enough alone. If you keep spending money pursing this, in a short time, you will already have spent enough to buy a new lower end computer with a faster processor than you are trying to use. If you like the computer case, a better approach to upgrading would be a new mother board/processor combination. These are only my opinions, and other members may offer more helpful advice! might it be possible that you set bios settings that are not compatible w/ur 1ghz? you should have a jumper that shortcircuits the mobo and resets all the settings on it; that or remove your cmos battery for 5~mins and put it back in.

    Roborunman,
I apoligize, and I was wrong about your board. A search showed that several people have been able to do what you are trying to do! Sorry for my diatribe without any research

It's all right, and that's exactly my problem, others seem to have done it but I can't get it to work.
