Upgrading ie6???

I have Windows XP Pro and because of some special circumstances we are still using dial-up (long story). Yahoo, AOL and other sites say that we need to upgrade IE or their site may not work or be viewed properly. BUT, I keep hearing how terrible the upgrades are. Which version of IE is better? 7? 8? 9? Where can I find older versions (I "think" MS only has the newest versions available, but I'm not sure). Please share your thoughts and advice. I appreciate any help, thank you.

You should upgrade to IE8 as it is far more secure, especially if you carry out financial transactions online. Unfortunately for you, IE9 is reserved for Vista, Server 2K8 and Windows 7. I'm not sure what you've heard about them but they seemed to work well enough.

You can't run 9 in XP. So your choices are version 7 and version 8.
I'd start by upgrading to version 7. Use it for a bit then upgrade to v8.

If you have someone who has a high speed connection, get them to download it for you, put it on a USB stick and install it on your computer.

I do not recommend jumping from v6 to v8 immediately.
