I have a Compaq Presario 1700T laptop, when it was originally purchased it came with 256meg of ram. I'm wanting to load or actually have loaded XP pro. I want to upgrade the memory but according to our dear friends in India (HP/Compaq helpdesk), the first 256 meg module is built-in, I haven't taken this box apart to verify that, I'm curious if I purchase an OEM chip for this box should I be real concerned about brand, I know Windows is more forgiving when it comes to memory than Linux is, do you think I should be concerned? rolleyes

Check out www.crucial.com for an on-line scan of your laptop.
It will tell you what Ram is installed.
Also what expansion is possible and even suggest pricing.
You don't have to buy from Crucial, of course.
With a bit of luck, with 256 megs built in, you may have 1 or 2 free slots for expansion.:cool Bazza
