I just realized I don't have firewire on my mobo (ASUS-P5B), just wanted to know, how much of a hassle was it for you guys that actually upgraded your own mobo's?
My friend wired my PC for me and did a MUCH better job than I could ever do.
I'm just thinking get an entirely new pc...:D
    I'M SOOO dreading this...:cry

well, not to discourage you too much, but upgrading your motherboard is basically building the entire PC over again, including reinstalling the OS, unless you get a VERY similar motherboard. If firewire is your only gripe, get a firewire card that you can install in minutes and enjoy :)

If you want a new motherboard for various reasons, all in all, building a computer isnt too hard, just time consuming until you get the hang of it.

Okay, didn't know I could get a firewire card.
Here's a list from a local dealer, which would you recommend?
    Thanks in advance. :wave

or tigerdirect, not their biggest fans, but TrendNet seems to be a good option

Also my case on the top has 2 usb ports which work fine and 1 firewire (which I can't plug onto the mobo, obviously).
Would I be able to do so with this controller if I bought it? Or am I correct when assuming it has to be plugged into the motherboard?

Some firewire cards have a 'header' for the port in front, some (most) don't. The only way to know for sure is to get some detailed specs about the card you're interested in....

I'm interested in one that would have that header as well as 2 ports in the back. Thanks for pointing that out. :)
    Any recommendations brand wise?
As I stated earlier, TrenDNet looks good.

The P5B is a very modern board and should last even an extreme gamer some good long while.

In particular the USB ports are USB 2 so there is no benefit from suggesting combined USB2 / firewire card, unless you need extra USB ports as well.

However as an alternative to a card you might like to consider one of the front replacement units, if you have any blank drive spaces. These come with a variety of inputs including firewire and camera card slots.

Firewire is also called IEEE 1394 and interestingly the P5B deluxe board has 1394 connection!

1394 boards are one of the stock items I carry round as customers need the addition, though not as often as USB2. Total time to blast off should be no more than 5 minutes. Boards and front panel inserts are obtainable between about $7.50 and $25.00, plus tax in the UK.

    Good luck.

No, I don't need any more USB ports. lol
Would any of you mind clicking the links and recommend one for me, greatly appreciated.
I have space in the front of the PC, so maybe that'll be best, for faster access...again, thank you guys.:major:wave:major
