Upgrading the CPU in my laptop

Hello,

I've never really done anything on a laptop except upgrade RAM. I'm thinking about upgrading my old Sempron with this: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103521 for more power and a little better battery life. How can I tell if it's compatible? I know that my laptop has a socket 754 mobo. Any program I can run or something like that?

AMD Sempron 3000+ (supposed to be 2800+ with a CDRW/DVD-R, but mine accidentally had a 3000+ and a DVD-RW... WOOT, lol)
768MB RAM (up from the 256 it started with)

Hi mate, I would not suggest this kind of operation to someone who wasnt VERY familiar with the internals of a laptop... that said the best thing to do is to call up ACER themselves and ask them what CPU is compatible with your laptop ( I did this for my ACER 5020 ) after you find out you can purchase it and fit it but be warned fitting a new CPU in a laptop can be extremely frustrating and difficult.... a little tip if you decide to DIY take great care remembering where each screw went cos when I did it I was left with about 8screws, also dont force anything it will come apart quite easily if your doing it right. The route to the internals of a lot of laptops is through the keyboard. Good luck !

 

Hi, I have Acer Aspire 5024 wlmi with AMD Turion 64bit 1.8 Ghz, maybe the same like you. Did you have succes with your cpu upgrade? and if yes what cpu did acer recommend you? I would like to upgrade mine as well. Thanks for any advice.
