Ok so basically! I accidently copied a major folder i use into another folder during this i pressed cancel..then unsure how to get it all back to where it was i just did a system restore.

Now everytime i go to open a word doc i get this:
word cannot open this document user does not have access privileges

Other files such as mp3's & pictures also won't open..but appear to be there...

Any ideas how to help? A System restore further back?

    Windows XP Sp3

    There's a folder in C: called: 204b12e691dc33a5bf

Inside is a weird file called mrt.exe & mrtstub.exe ... no idea why they are there and that's the folder i accidently pasted some of these files into.

    First, read this article on the malicious removal tool from MS;

    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/890830

You'll see this is supposed to run on your computer, not install.

It sounds to me like you copied those files into a temp folder created by MS. Can you copy those files back into your User Documents? Can you create new word documents, then save and note exactly where it saved.

I really don't know what happens when you copy docs into a temp folder, but if they are important, DO NOT use any clean-up programs or procedures. All of these clean out the temp files as part of the procedure, unless you specifically exclude them.

Ok i won't run anything like that....

They are really badly important as well to me. I can still save word docs etc. open any other folders files that weren't in the original one copied...

But what about using explorer to copy those back out?

MIGHT be able to do it by changing permissions. What OS are you running?

XPsp3 - P4 - I went into safemode to change the settings and i was still not allowed....i can't actually open even the ones that where originally there....It's really hard to explain but:

    > Copied accidently
    > Stopped the copy
    > some remained
    > now there's two main folders called OLX (80% in 1 20% in other)
    > i can't open a file in both
    > the OLX which has moved is located in that mumble jumble folder...

And you right clicked, selected properties, the security tab, advanced and made changes there?

I'm beyond anything I've seen related to an issue like this.

    Anybody else?

Go to start, run, then type in control userpasswords2 and hit enter. Tell me what it says next to your username.
